Rare: a second piece in store from the Margiela spring 1992 collection. You know the scarf skirts. You know the cigarette shoulders. You know the tartan pleats (thanks to us maybe?). Now let us show you a zipper piece from that same collection. Martin designed a series of flat garments, fully split by a zipper going along the front and the neckline. A jumper and maxi dress were worn on the runway (backstage reel following soon). But in this top the zipper becomes the straps. The 80's babies among us might remember a watered down version of this being prevalent in stores. Together with with denim trousers made into baguette bags. For all the 2000 babies: this is what you call Y2K style. When we thought that all computers would blow up at midnight because they wouldn't be able to show to 00:00 2000 clock. Photo dump of the Margiela FW1997 collection Featuring versions of our Maison Martin Margiela dark blue cropped jumper with two different sleeves — fall 1997 A small detail is the upper part which was knit horizontally (as opposed to the lower part having a vertical knit) It almost seems as if you're wearing a cropped top over something else. This cropped version is exactly what Margiela showed on the runway in grey. An exactly the same beige version was presented in much thicker knit. We love love LOVE ourselves a good photo dump. Here are a few pulled from our archives from the Margiela FW1991 collection. We're not just posting archival pictures for clout (ok, perhaps a little bit 👀) but also because we actually have said pieces! Yes! A fall 1991 Margiela midi-skirt in velvet, wrongly reassembled with seams on the outside. Not only do we have a plethora of reference runway images, but some pictures of the Margiela expo in the Antwerp Fashion Museum too. AND we've also sold a 1994 re-edition. Meanwhile our sold archive has gotten pretty expansive so always worth a casual browse on a casual Sunday. Remember, we talked about chasing clout? These 1999 Margiela Artisanal trompe-l'oeil shoulder pads have been on my selling grail list for so long! I was only able to find them for price over 1200€ which is, to be honest, so ridiculously overpriced that it's offensive. So I am happy to offer these as a consignment piece for a collector that wants a fair price. Do not be mistaken, these are not padded! Yes, I was surprised too when I received them. Because even though they have the stitches and padding printed, I assumed they were structured. Therefor I tried to photograph them from multiple angles. Just to make sure the dimensions translated well. The shoulder pads were meant to be snapped on ss99 flat dresses, re-editioned from spring and fall 1998 in a different silhouette, and some semi-couture vests printed with trompe-l'oeils too. Those vests were a crossover re-edition from the ss1997 and the ss1996 collection. The prints of these shoulders pads were also taken from the ss1996 trompe-l'oeil collection. The concept of shoulder pieces came from multiple seasons, since Martin made shoulder pads and detacheable sleeves in many of his 90's collections. Another archival Margiela piece! I'll just start mentioning new garments in the beginning of posts because currently my captions have become like those foodblogs. You know the ones, where you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to get the recipe. Aka "so I was on holiday in Venice with my boyfriend and he rented a gondola. When leaving to go the hotel he proposed!!! And actually it was so funny because the ring fell and there were some Hula Hoop chips on the ground and we couldn't find the ring. Ohmygosh. But we did up finding it! So anyway, that's why I wanted to post this recipe of a salsa with Hula Hoop sprinkles" Aaaand here I am doing it again myself! So to finally get to the picture: it features a pair of fall 1996 trousers of which the knees are tucked.
