‘9-1-1’s’ Lou Ferrigno Jr On Flying helicopters, Bobby’s Death, And What’s Next For Tommy

No one really needs the reminder, but Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) died on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15. The death is a series-defining moment for the show as Bobby is the first main character to be killed off. It’s rocked everyone, including Lou Ferrigno Jr, who plays firefighter pilot Tommy Kinard. Tommy makes another return in 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15, answering the call from ex-boyfriend Buck (Oliver Stark), who asks for a lift in a helicopter to escape the military so they can deliver a cure for the virus Chimney (Kenneth Choi) is currently infected with. 9-1-1's Kenneth Choi tearfully processes Bobby's 'devastating' death: 'This doesn't make any sense' (exclusive)

Like many 9-1-1 fans, Kenneth Choi wept watching Thursday's episode. "I was sobbing," the actor, who stars as Chimney on the ABC first responder drama, tells Entertainment Weekly just hours before viewers would see fire captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) sacrifice himself so Chimney could receive the one existing dose of cure for a mutated version of CCHF, or Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. "I mean, I f---ing filmed it and I was still sobbing uncontrollably with my friend for like three or four minutes," Choi continues, "to the point where I started to laugh at myself, because it was uncontrollable sobbing. I was laughing at myself saying, "I don't know what is happening! I know this isn’t real! Why am I acting like this? But it was devastating to me." Choi is holding back (or at least attempting to hold back) tears even answering this question, something he continues to do throughout EW's exclusive interview, which covers how 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear broke the news to the cast, what Krause thinks of being killed off, and what's next for the remaining members of the 118.

‘S.W.A.T.’ and ‘9-1-1’ actor Lou Ferrigno Jr. is in ‘Full Motion’

In “9-1-1,” Ferrigno portrays Tommy Kinard, who is an ex-firefighter who previously worked at Station 118 of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Presently, Tommy works as a pilot at LAFD Air Operations. “I am very proud of the work that we do on both shows, and how they handle things,” Ferrigno said.

“Professionally, I am in a great position, and I am really taking in a moment every day to be grateful for that. Professional courtesy is at a premium there. Everyone wants to be there, and everyone wants to work hard. It is a really fruitful environment,” he elaborated about “9-1-1.”

'9-1-1' season 9 boss previews new captain, new series regulars, and crossover chances (exclusive)

9-1-1 has a Bobby Nash-size hole to fill. The 118 fire captain, played by Peter Krause on eight seasons of the first-responder drama, died earlier this year prioritizing his team's safety during an encounter with a deadly virus. And season 9 will start with the firefighters still picking up the pieces.
