While Miraval originally came onto our radar due to its celebrity ownership, it has remained relevant because the contents of its unique packaging have stood up to the considerable hype around it. Assessed at 10 degrees Celcius, the 2014 vintage is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Rolle coming in at 13% ABV. Its predecessors have been widely touted by critics having earned scores in the 90+ point range leaving this wine some pretty big shoes to fill.
Eyes: Light coppery pink with a water like viscosity in the glass.
Nose: Notes of peach and honey with a alluring floral / herbal note and a slight whiff of chalk and spice. Its bouquet is very subdued and elegant.
Palate: Wonderful acidity here with orange zest, peach, raspberry and a long, clean finish. It refreshes the palate with each sip and carries a mineral quality that lingers for a long while. It remains light and nimble making it almost too easy to drink.
The latest vintage of Miraval Rose has been a treat to assess; it represents a perfect accompaniment to warm summer and fall days / nights or a way to remind you of those nights as the weather begins to turn. At almost $30, it will be a splurge to most Rosé lovers but one that will reward. Enjoy on its own and buy to drink now and reserve a bottle until Valentines Day of 2016 or when a romantic occasion calls.
