Happy Birthday to Dr. Edith V. Francis, our 18th International President! She served as superintendent of schools for Ewing and Irvington New Jersey (k-12) school districts. She received the keys to Indianapolis during Iota Zeta Chapter 50th Anniversary luncheon. Dr. Francis served from 1980-1986. Under her administration, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated supported programs that focused on voter education, civil rights advocacy and youth and senior initiatives. Chapters in Alaska and Germany were chartered, and Golden Life Membership was instituted under her administration. Dr. Francis also helped form the Council of Presidents of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Please join us in wishing Past President Dr. Edith V. Violette Neatley Anderson was the 8th International President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She became the first African-American woman to practice law before the United States Supreme Court on January 29, 1926. She was one of the most prominent advocates of a landmark piece of legislation that helped secure rights and economic mobility for sharecroppers in the South, the Bankhead-Jones Act. Happy Birthday to Past International President Dr. Jylla Moore Tearte. She is a business executive and consultant. She graduated from Salisbury High School in 1972, and earned her B.S. degree in mathematics from Livingstone College in 1976. She went on to receive her M.B.A. degree in marketing from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in 1978, and her Ph.D. degree in organizational behavior from Benedictine University in 2009. Soror Angelica Perkins is a Spring 2017 initiate of the Beta Beta Chapter at Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). She serves the student body as the 89th Miss University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
