Geordie Greep

The New Sound

Geordie is also the frontman and guitarist for 'Black Midi' which is now on an 'indefinite hiatus'. I reviewed their latest album, Hellfire back in 2022. This is his solo project. I learned that he's only 25; he sounds much older and polished and accomplished for his age. This album rips. Great quality of progressive/experimental rock and just super fun. I don't think it needs to be an hour long, but it's so good that I don't mind it. It's one that you move to all the way through.

African Imperial Wizard

One of the most unique pieces I've ever heard. It's tribal, vibey and eerily creepy. It sounds more like a film score. At the time I'm writing this they have 819 followers on Spotify which is crazy. My hope is that this small little blog will help get them at least one new listen.

Infant Island

I listened to this album four times through straight. This is absolutely everything I love in a metal album. It has great song structure, melodies and a great balance of scream-o. This really does put it on a 'Deafheaven' type of level for me and can't believe I haven't listened to them before. For anyone who wants melodic structured, but chaotic black metal, this is the album for you.

Avalanche Kaito

This was a recommendation from Wyattxhim. This is one of the most unique albums I've ever heard. It's tribal, global and also futuristic as their comprised of Kaito Wince from Burkina Faso, Africa; and a duo from Brussels. It's really hard to describe how incredible this album is. It feels like I've discovered Death Grips from really early on. This group I will not gatekeep. I can't recommend this album enough and if you want to impress your friends, show them this.

Patterns in Repeat

Maybe its due to the current stress I have, but this album is exactly what I needed at the exact moment I needed it. I challenge anyone to hate this type of album. It immediately puts you in a great mood and I feel like I can listen to it anywhere. After giving this plays on repeat I've been deciding going between a 8 and 9. It can go either way for me here. It will certainly be in my list of top albums of the year.

Magdalena Bay

Synth pop. I love the distinctive feel of each track while still giving a lot of energy. This is in contention to be one of my top albums of the year. It's great when I find a group that I haven't heard before and they blow me away. For anyone who wants a unique sound that's uplifting, poppy, and fun, this is the album for you.

Jessica Pratt

Here in the Pitch

Coffeeshop rainy day music. I did not know much about Jessica upon first listening, but she's primarily known as a folk artist. Every track here takes you really on a separate yet binding journey. I typically don't listen to this type of music, but the talent really breaks through. The instruments of light drums and guitars really just complement her voice so well. At the end it really just makes me feel good.

They Fear Us

London based hardcore. This is absolutely a 9 metalcore/hardcore album. It hits everything in the best possible ways; breakdowns, screamo, female melodies which I'm lately weak for. Again, listening to them they bring a new sound and something fresh into a genre that was honestly getting a bit stale.
