Mexico City must do.
With all the activities and sights to see in Mexico City and all the tasty food options that bombard you from every angle, it is difficult to decide what to do with your time.
If you’re worried about the size of this enormous city, or the safety concerns you hear about in the news, I can assure you that it’s no different from any other big city, like Paris or London. You must take safety precautions no matter where you go.
· Visit the Zócalo
The heart of the city, the main square. Its enormous and it’s easy to see why it was once used as the main ceremonial centre for the ancient Aztec city. Within the Zocalo is the Metropolitan Cathedral. You can go inside for a quick look, next to the cathedral is the Templo Mayor, which are the impressive ruins of the main temple of the Aztecs.
You can catch here any of the hop on hop off tours.
· City tour
I highly recommend any of the hop on hop off tours, you get to know many zones of the city and the ticket is valid for 24 hrs so you can spend the hours you want in each area. Do not miss the opportunity to visit few of the food markets of the city, a great chance to try local and real Mexican Food.
- Mercado de la Merced
- Mercado de San Juan
· Dinner at La Condesa
This is my favourite area to have dinner, you can go to a fancy restaurant or a small and local one, any of them are really good, the atmosphere and the taste is great.
· Chapultepec Castle
Now is used as the National Museum of History, but once was used to house royalty. It’s a beautiful building to walk around, especially if you’re into architecture and art.
· Palacio de Bellas Artes
One of the most impressive building in the city (and my favourite) – aka Palace of Fine Arts. Inside is an architecture and art museum. The building is also a host of important events throughout the year.
· Colonia Roma
The Colonia Roma neighbourhood is one of the most famous and popular areas of the city. It is divided up into two parts: Roma Norte and Roma Sur.
I suggest heading to this area when you’re done with museums. There are many bars and restaurants to explore here.
· Teotihuacan archaeological area
You cannot skip this one, Teotihuacan was one of the largest Mesoamerican cities in Mexico. The pyramids that were built there are a major tourist attraction in the area, and or a good reason. Contained on the grounds are the Pyramid of the Sun, the pyramid of the Moon, the Temple of Quetzapapalotl, the Avenue of the Dead and various other ruins from the once great city.
The tour will take you most of the day, so plan ahead. Make sure to arrive here early to avoid crowds and wear something to cover from the sun.
Mexico City is the biggest city of Latinoamerica so you have endless options to eat, what to do and where to stay. I just name a few but is an incredible city.
