Davy sighed as he looked at Julia, pulling her away from the loud group of guys, straight out the doors of the diner. "I'm sorry they showed up." He mumbled. "Please don't hold my friends against me." He felt like he could scream- The night had been going so well. Then his friends had to show up, harassing Julia without a care to his wishes or her comfort. (@owe-it-to-myself)

She looked over her shoulder at the rowdy guys who had come in, her brow furrowing. She recognized his friends, but sheâd never spoken with them, and Davy had rarely brought her to meet them.
âItâs fine,â she said, shaking her head and turning away. âDonât worry. Itâs not my first encounter with idiots.â
"It's just a scratch. You worry too much." (@owe-it-to-myself)

âSomeoneâs got to,â she replied, examining the bleeding scratch across the palm of his hand. âDidnât your mother ever tell you not to pick up broken glass?â
She pulled out her handkerchief and wrapped it around his hand. âIt looks bad. You might even need stitches.â
âYou pushed me out of bed in your sleep.â @owe-it-to-myself

âReally?â Julia turned red. How on Earth could she have pushed Davy, twice as big and about three times as tall as her, out of bed? âAre you joking? You have to be joking.â
âThatâs my baby in thereâ @owe-it-to-myself

Julia didnât remember the last time she had smiled so much. Her baby had kicked for the first time tonight, and had apparently found it so agreeable that they hadnât stopped for quite a while.
âI think theyâre excited to meet you,â she said. âKeep talking. Thatâs when they kick more.â

âLook at you,â she said, gazing at him in his freshly-trimmed glory. The beard was still there, but it was combed, cleaned, and had just a touch of grooming scissors. âYou look sharp. No one stands a chance if you turn your eye on them.â
She embraced him and kissed his nose. âGood thing I got your eyes on me.â
âi canât sleep because of all this.â @owe-it-to-myself

She tried not to look sympathetic, sitting beside him in his darkened kitchen. She doubted Davy was the type to appreciate pity.
âWhat would help?â she asked him. âWe can listen to the radio, we can talk. I would offer to make tea, but Iâm not sure youâre a tea drinker. Or we can just sit here. Tell me what would help.â
