I am by no means a timelapse professional and I am also by no means a tutorial-making-connoiseur by any stretch of the imagination but here's how I generally shoot a holy grail timelapse with my Timelapse+ VIEW. Nothing too special here. We stopped at a friends house last night and I decided I would test out my Timelapse+ VIEW to see how well the shoot move shoot worked with my Revolve slider. It worked very very well!. Only issue I really came up with was my timing is much much much slower than anticipated for movement. Which, was one of the things I was trying to test here. All in all it's a very successful timelapse in terms of testing. :) It only moved about a 1/3 of the way up the slider in 2 hours. I have been waiting to put this timelapse together for quite some time now but was slightly limited by my old computer. I am so happy to finally be able to share these with you all. To me, astrophotography and timelapses are such an incredible thing. It's so peaceful and amazing sitting outside in the dark watching the beautiful night sky pass by over head. I can't even believe some of the stuff I have captured under the night sky's. I really can't thank some of you guys enough for the information you guys have learned and shared along the way. That has helped me immensely with my creativity as well. This is a compilation of most all new timelapses that I have not shared yet. So I really hope you all enjoy my latest work. I have reduced the amount of motion I am using mainly because I am wanting to create star trails with my images as well. I can't make startrails with my images if I have my camera running on my slider. But, I will still do them in the future. ;) Gear used in the making of all this as follows. So as a lot of you have seen I had a pretty amazing time at the Alexian Brothers Novitiate. But, some of you may be curious about the behind the scenes of how I lit the scene this time. I know a lot of people do/use different techniques but this is the very easy, quick setup I did for this shoot. Nothing fancy at all. I took my Lume Cube and throw it onto a flash stand and that's it. The Lume Cube has Light-House on it with a flat white diffuser and a colored CTO gel to give it more of a warmer feel (usually Lume Cubes are a little blue/purplish without one) I had it on the lowest setting (possibly second lowest but I don't think it was the lowest). Once I got that setup I took a couple test shots. Just move the tripod that I have the light on back and forth until I get the desired lighting I want. I could connect to the Lume Cube through the Lume X app on my phone to adjust the brightness but since I was on the lowest setting my only options would be to add more diffusers or move it back further until I get the desired exposure. This works out great for my timelapses because I can keep a constant light on for hours without any issues with my exposure. I've run them for several hours this way many times. So this didn't go 100% as planned but I would still like to share it. I wanted a timelapse of the sun setting from 360 Chicago Observatory. I won't go over all the issues I had that day but as you can see they didn't stop with just happening during the day. During the timelapse for some reason my camera stopped running the timelapse. So, it got a bit shaky and I have roughly 10 minutes of transition time that I had missed. Couple that with the reflections (that I thought I had covered because I couldn't see them during the day...) and I have a not so great timelapse BUT I learned a few things that I can shore up. I intend on going back and shooting this again. I will fix my current issues/mistakes and produce what I intended on doing the first time! So I guess we can say this is my rough draft of better things to come. This was my first time actually planning and shooting with my Timelapse+ VIEW. This is a pretty unique/awesome little device to say the least! I planned on shooting from a park that was a bit closer to the capital but I think the entrance must have been buried behind some snow so I couldn't find it. It was a race against time because the sun was setting pretty fast and I still didn't know where the hell I was going.....sooooo...I just made the best of it and went for the nearest boat landing which was a bit further away but was manageable. I didn't quite get the framing I wanted because I was a bit further out but I made the best of it. I had to use a different focal length but I couldn't zoom in too far since the wind was blowing pretty harshly across the lake and I didn't want to limit my shutter speed to much. I didn't know the lake well enough to want to venture out too far onto it so I followed a trail and setup. I had some pretty great results and can't wait to get a few more of these timelapses scratched off my list! With it being 6 degrees F and dropping with some pretty powerful winds across the lake I would say I earned this one!
