Sherlock and Vizzini: The Cleverest of Men
It's been noted that the end of ASIP is the iocane powder scene from PB but what hasn't been discussed is why. Because Goldman was thinking of Doyle when he wrote the scene and Vizzini is Sherlock. Therefore, Sherlock is Vizzini whose very cleverness is his ultimate downfall. In Canon, Hope is using his faith to justify his revenge murders. It can't really be murder if a higher power is the one putting the good pill in his hand. The Hope of Sherlock however makes no excuses for his killing spree. He's just good at it. He takes a perverse pleasure in outwitting the Yard and the great Sherlock Holmes himself. He's almost eager to be caught, to go up against Sherlock. He's an armchair chess player going against a master. To make this drastic change in character and change the context for the murders serves to highlight the similarity between the two scenes. The writers of Sherlock were so influenced by Goldman because Goldman himself was influenced by Dolye.
My brain: how many times can we disassociate in a day? Let's find out

Life Before The Project
Jane Smith was a sweet child born into war. Her parents dead when she was four, she barely remembered them. She was found pretty quickly by a rouge sort of family. The second eldest to be adopted, she grew up, the family growing bigger and the mother an ex-marine.
War and famine made them scramble for resources. The children learned from a young age how to fight and run, how to tell good food from bad and how to survive. When storms and rough firefights hit, they would retreat underground. Jane would sing with their mother to ease her younger siblings.
It was a tense life, lived in blood and ash, but it was a life. By the end, she had five brothers and three sisters, only one brother older than her by four years.
Then They came. The men who found them, killed each one, one by one, Jane forced to watch her family picked off as her older brother rushed to get her out, only to die once he hid her. She waited there for days. She survived alone, wandering at the age of thirteen for two months before the Director found her.
She had turned cruel, vicious and savage, having forgotten what kindness and love felt like, forgetting what compassion and family had been like. He had been both full of tender and tough love. The experiments were agony, but when he told her she’d be able to protect people, she forged on. He had become a sort of father figure for her.
Then she was brought into the Freelancer Project, christened with a new name; Arizona. This? This was her new family now. And this time, she’d do everything ti took to keep it safe, even if it meant dying.
