When Trexel gave his whole speech and wound himself all the way up to “I love him!” He really had me for a second. It was so impassioned. When he backed off of it I brushed it aside as just a joke but now I’m thinking there might be something there. No I am not saying that Trexel is in love with David but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t saying something real.

When Trexel gets really worked up it often throws him into the past and he starts talking about things that happened specifically to him. We’ve heard him do this with his parents and traumatic events with coworkers and for various smaller gags. One of the times we’ve seen him do this was when he mentioned a clone his parents felt he was too close to.

We don’t really know anything else about this clone besides that Trexel was close to them. We do however know a lot about David 7. David is probably the closest person to Trexel right now. They see each other every day. David cannot have the blatant hatred and revulsion most of Trexel’s coworkers seem to have for him because it could jeopardize his chances of survival. David also isn’t one of his drinking buddies. He is always sober when he sees Trexel, and Trexel is at least probably not actively drinking when he’s with David. This could be the closest Trexel has gotten to being emotionally close to another person in decades.

So in the heat of the moment, when he is defending David. I can see why he would be caught up and reminded of another time, maybe a time when he put a little more effort into it. Maybe a time when he was standing between his parents and a person he’d somehow grown to care about.
