Sometimes I think being beaten with a belt until I’m sobbing and begging for mercy would fix me.
genuinely thought there's no way pachinko s2 will show me more perfect episode than episode 10 but they almost prove me wrong in episode 13. the first 13 minutes and how it's filmed, the black-and-white screen, the countdowns (THE COUNTDOWNS!!!!), the normal working routine, the news of hiroshima bombing (that's treated as just some passing news from radio), those delicate details they're showing in the span of 13 minutes are adding the sense of something disastrous creeping in. the underlying horror that pachinko's episode 13 trying to deliver is even more pronounced when we, as viewer, is already aware of what's going to happen, catapulting us into the feeling of restless knowing things already happened, real people were dying, and we were helpless to stop it from happening.
and not to point out the obvious but this episode is the only episode where their iconic intro isn't included in the final cut.
