Headcanon: Simply a Caterpillar
“And you must always use your magic carefully for it is dangerous and wild and it is only just budding.”
Over and over again the same things were said to her. The same advisement repeated like a prayer. It was boring to her. But they were not wrong about about what they said. Without lessons her magic would grow unstable and uncontrollable as she got older. There were many out there that had met a terrible fate for using their magic unwisely. And she could be one of them if she did not tread carefully.
They said that her magic, one day, would have the power to cross time and space. And maybe, just maybe, do so much more.
They had hope or her. A sorceress that would do great things.
Unfortunately for her, a silly little prodigy was born around the same time she was. One who’d take his magician exams when he was only a child and could potentially do all the things they were only whispering about when it came to her.
It was irritating and annoying that some wizard was going to take all the glory but it also worked out in her favor in some sense for she was no doubt slothful and had little interest in actually doing all this meticulous practicing. If there was someone doing all that she could potentially do then she didn’t have to work all that hard to hone her abilities. After all, they’d grown on their own and as she desired, consequences and omens were nothing that concerned her if she had the potential to be incredibly powerful. What was the worst that could happen?
So she lazed about, picking on this foolish wizard when he was around but mostly she enjoyed doing as she pleased.
She remained a caterpillar, not desiring to be the butterfly she’d one day turn into. There was no attempt to make a chrysalis or cocoon. She was simply content to remain as she was, using her powers as she pleased and paying no mind to the recoil it had on everything around her. She was too powerful to have it rebound to herself so it was everything else that suffered and she paid it no mind. What did it matter? All her ditching lessons and not paying attention added up to her having no value for anything or anyone but herself.
It was a metamorphosis that was stunted and delayed but would not be avoided or ignored forever. It would come. And all past deeds would be remembered and accounted for. But until that unforeseen day she enjoyed herself.
Being a lazy caterpillar was just the life for her.
