Maria bursts through the doorway, slipping free of her mother's grasp. Marco kneels down, arms spread wide. She leaps. He catches her, standing and twirling them both. Her little hands bury into the heavy fabric of his cape.

Lorenza, smiling, follows after. She's pale. Dark circles sit uneasily under her eyes. He shifts Maria to his hip and reaches out to Lorenza, drawing her in to kiss her forehead.

"You haven't been resting. You promised me you'd take care of yourself, my love."
