“I had zero expectations” “I know that this is how they most likely are” “I’m not surprised” WELL DAMN!!! I must be stupid and dumb and completely silly!!!! I will not excuse their actions away by normalizing that type of behavior by men. I will ALWAYS expect better, even if that leaves me disappointed and angry. Bad buddy, the hit Thai bl, said it best “I may not be able to change the world, but the world can’t change me either”. And so I persist!! I will never lower my bar. If these dirty stinky losers can’t reach my bar, it’s because they are bad people, and bad people deserve to be criticized, not normalized.
If these hockey players say they think everyone should be able to play sports and enjoy the games, I believe them. If they then in turn laugh at jokes where women are the butt of the joke and actively without any guidance thank the troops back home when the troops back home are killing people and preventing joy for everyone, well yeah I’m gonna have to definitely believe they meant that one!!! But I will be surprised about it. Because they lied. Because I believed the lie. Because I always want to believe people are better than what others assume. Because if I don’t have the belief that they are better, it allows and excuses them to be worse. Now I know who they are though, and they are not good people. I am disappointed and surprised because they have failed to meet baseline expectations. That’s on them!!
My part in saying fuck you to the patriarchy is looking men in the eyes, shaking them like a snow globe, and saying “YOU WILL BE GOOD , AND IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD YOU WILL BE BETTER OR YOU WILL BE SHUNNED.”
