Oh GAWWWWD the stripper doesn’t love you comments coming out of the wood works to haunt me AGAAAAIN.
the stripper doesn’t need to love me!!!! I don’t care what the stripper does in their free time!!!!! But if I have to hear stupid nonsense garbo doodoo from their mouth in a public interview, then I have every right to point, laugh, call out, and make fun of the illiterate hockey douche drooling on the mic.
I get that people are saying it so that they don’t get hurt and are protecting themselves and their peace so they can experience joy in their hobbies. Especially in situations where holding people to higher expectations have led to disappointment for them in the past. You are allowed to protect your peace in the ways that work for you.
The problem I have is when this thought is seen as THE thought that would work for everyone. That if you hold white rich men accountable for their actions, you are naive and ignorant. And even if it means NOTHING, and I waste time typing, or waste my breath speaking, I do feel the need to speak out and TRY to make them uncomfortable for their actions. “The stripper doesn’t love you” can protect your peace but it does not protect mine and that is OKAY!!!!!!!! It doesn’t make me ignorant, it just means I protect my peace differently.
I don’t know how to not speak out and feel angry when someone is openly disrespectful. I’m in a very privileged position where speaking and advocating is something I can choose to do, rather then something I have no choice but to live.
I understand that people make mistakes. Some mistakes are more egregious than others ofc. And if it is born from ignorance, then I find it important to see how a person rectifies the situation. What they do to learn and how they act afterwards will inform my opinion on them. If they refuse to be held accountable, refuse to learn, and double down on their ignorance, then they are selfish ignorant people who do not deserve my energy support or time. The stripper does not love me, okay! But if it was a random guy saying this shit I wouldn’t sit back and lower my expectations. If this was my dad, or sibling, or cousin, or friend, or boyfriend I wouldn’t just sit back and lower my expectations. These random athletes are not better then those I hold close to me, so I will not give them a pass on accountability when I wouldn’t give that pass to the people who are MUCH more important in my life.
At the end of the day, the way that I find peace is to speak. I will always choose to speak. That isn’t to say I’m better than anyone. It’s to say that this is my choice and it’s not any better or worse than yours. It doesn’t make either of us naive. It just makes us different and that’s okay.
