Ltn Franz Pernet was the stepson of Gen Ludendorff, and he had served in Jasta ‘Boelcke’ since June 1917. He flew this Albatros D III, marked with broad bands that were probably black-white-black, with a white border. Pernet was killed in action on 5 September 1917 (A Imrie)

Adolf von Tutschek was credited with his second victory on the last day of March 1917, and contributed to Jasta ‘Boelcke’s’ tally in ‘Bloody April’ with an FE 2b captured on the 6th. Von Tutschek’s lighter side is evident in this view, in which he cheerfully poses with a Staffel mascot (complete with cigarette!) carefully place on the fuselage of an Albatros D III. Von Tutschek had a penchant for wearing captured British flying gear, and here he sports RFC ‘fug boots’. The D III displays the Jasta ‘Boelcke’ unit emblem of a white tail, with a black-bordered white band serving as the pilot’s personal marking (A Imrie)
