Storyboard: A Question Of Commitment (4.3, Thames, 1989)
"Blair's no fool."
"Otherwise we wouldn't be doing this, would we? Now, what's he into: drugs, women? Men?"
"He likes the grape. His libido is... healthily normal."
"Makes a change for the Secret Service."
#Storyboard#A question of commitment#1989#classic tv#Single play#Mr. Palfrey of Westminster#Clive Wood#Donald Burton#Amanda elwes#Tim wylton#Jeffrey Chiswick#Charles kay#Carolyn pickles#Eric dodson#Dorothea Phillips#Penny brownjohn#Willoughby Gray#Helen Horton#Christine ellerbeck#Matthew radford#Philip broadley#gareth davies#With the traitor this was one of only two Storyboards I'd seen before watching the series. Included on the Mr Palfrey set it was tbh a#Bitter disappointment first time round. Oh its not exactly awful but it certainly isn't Mr Palfrey; it feels completely different#It lacks a lot of the humour and gentle archness. I thought watching it as a solo play might improve my opinion. I guess it does slightly#But it's hard to separate this from Palfrey. Maybe it would be better if it was completely unrelated. It's a shame because the cast alone#Makes this worth a look: Wylton is wonderful as a grubby middleman in the spy game and old favourite Burton gets to be very high handed#As the spymaster. The plot is fine and the script inoffensive but it just... Doesn't gel somehow. Even taken on its own merits#It just doesn't really impress. Still worth it if only for Blair's delightful cat#Although the running gag about Blair failing to meet his nice neighbour for a date is very tiresome and really kind of shitty of him
