teaser/tidbit tuesday wednesday
I know I'm a little late, and have been tagged by a handful of people; thank you @bangpop91 and @typicalopposite.
Also, I know the promises I made at the start of the summer, but... well, this story really is insistent that it wants to be finished soon (shhh, I know. I know.)
that all said... have this teaser of chapter 24 of a set of empty bones
-
“Are you missing something,” he asks, rubbing his hand up his right forearm, over the reformed bone. He refrains from saying me. Don’t go. Stay here. I’m sorry. And half a million other thoughts that he can’t let go of.
Tommy glances up at him, and to his own credit, his expression is somber. There’s no glee or joy in this decision; in the choice to do what they need to. He doesn’t look angry or resigned to defeat. He just looks tired. It makes Evan hate himself.
“I think I’ve got it all,” he answers after a moment, reaching for the zipper on his duffel.
“Anything you need out of the bathroom,” Evan asks. “You got your tooth brush? Your sh-sh-..”
Tommy lets out a soft sigh, reaching out for Evan’s hand where it’s still wrapped around his arm. The younger man goes willingly, lets the pilot pull him up from his spot, turning his face away when Tommy tugs him in and hugs him. He sniffs softly as Tommy presses a kiss into his neck.
“Hey.”
Tommy leans back just a little, keeping his arm wrapped around Evan's hip as the other reaches up for Evan's chin. He turns Evan's head gently, frowning when he sees the wetness in his eyes.
"I'm not doing this to hurt you," Tommy murmurs. "And I'm coming back. This isn't the end of anything."
I get sad, you get trauma 😂

empty bones teaser
Athena slides her hand down the folder but doesn’t fully remove it. “Pictures were found.”
Tommy’s eyes go wide and he steps forward, unabashed rage flooding through him. “What?”
Another squeak comes out of Evan, his brow so tightly knit together that it has to be causing him pain, and he’s squeezing his right hand in his left, breathing in loud, stiff movements.
“Tommy,” Bobby warns, his hand coming up to rest in the center of the man’s chest, stopping him. He clenches his jaw, looks over at Evan, and some of the tension falls out of him at the sight of his boyfriend, visibly crumbling next to him.
“Evan,” he murmurs in a softer tone, reaching out for his hands and gently pulling them apart.
“I want to see them,” Evan rasps, gulping. The other three look at him somewhat incredulously.
“Baby-..” “Buck-..” “Evan.”
“What,” he stammers, ignorant of the tears coming down his face. He looks over at Tommy. “Everyone else gets to see them. Why shouldn’t I? It’s my goddamn body.”
yall, I really want to do something to commemorate Empty Bones turning 1/reaching 1000 kudos. the problem is... I don't know what that commemoration should be.
shall I:
empty bones birthday/1000 kudos celebration options
write a oneshot from Eddie's perspective
write something else from the early days (aka early chapters)
something else entirely (audience's choice via tags or my inbox)
your thoughts would help, because I really don't know what I specifically want to do.
fuck-it friday
it's been a minute since I've teased anything, and this next bit of EB is dragging because I know the end is close and I'm not emotionally prepared. but I really like this scene.
-
Evan curls over on Hen’s shoulder, leaning against her as she stares up at the movie on the TV. He thinks it’s one of the Madea movies, but he’s too tired to try and fully understand if he’s correct.
“Tommy and I had sex,” he says softly.
Hen is quiet for a minute, and he’s too tired to look up and see if he overstepped or if she’s disgusted by what he just told her. But also, he feels like he has to talk to someone about it.
“I mean that’s your right,” she says after a time. She doesn’t add more, and it leaves him to consider her intent behind the statement.
He’s quiet for a while longer, still just resting on her shoulder, wrapped up in the comforter. After a few minutes of resting with his eyes closed, he opens them again and inhales a breath.
“I thought I’d be ashamed of it,” he admits. “Or that it would feel wrong.”
Hen’s hand slips up around the back of his head, scratching the back of his scalp.
“Well you should never feel that way about being with the person you love,” she tells him, her eyes still on the television. "Especially after something like what you went through. You should get to feel safe and loved.”
He stares at the end of the bed, his gaze unfocused. He knows everything she's saying is true, even though his feelings towards sex are still complex and unresolved. Still, he must way too long to say anything, because Hen pauses the movie after a time and shifts in a way that he knows she’s looking down at him.
“He does that, right? Makes you feel safe and loved? Because Buck-..”
“He does,” he answers with a nod, cutting her off, and he knows the words are true. Even though it’s just been the one night so far that he’s let Tommy top again, nothing had felt as safe or as comforting as the way his boyfriend had treated him then as it had since the night of his assault. He contemplates his words for a few more moments as he feels Hen’s gaze on him.
“It…everything got really distorted, after. I didn’t trust anyone, and I was mad at everyone, and I thought that would erode everything in our relationship; that- that Tommy would figure out I was upset with him and- and he’d…leave.”
“But you weren’t actually mad at him,” Hen surmises.
“No,” he confirms quietly. His gaze shifts even further down. “Mostly I was mad at myself.”
Seven Sentence Sunday
(yeah I know I'm late, but I slept all day okay)
His movements start to stutter as their fingers brush up against the waistline of his boxers once, twice, and then a third time. And then his fingers are shaking as he curls Tommy’s thumb inside the elastic, his own breath hitching in his chest because it feel too tight and like he can’t get enough air and-
“Evan, stop.”
He snaps his head up and looks over at Tommy. Tommy slides his fingers out from under Evan’s, bringing them up to rest in the center of his stomach.
“That’s not what I meant,” he continues.
Evan’s brow furrows as he stares into Tommy’s eyes in the darkness of the room. Tommy’s other hand comes down from where it’s wrapped behind his own head, brushing through the curls on Evan’s head.
“I thought you wanted to touch me,” he rasps, confused.
Tommy’s entire expression wilts, and his hand slides away from Evan’s torso, removing contact from his body. His fingertips are barely on Evan’s hipbone when Evan grasps his wrist, squeezing so tightly that the bite of his nails in Tommy’s skin are likely to leave marks.
“Please don’t stop,” he requests, his voice choked with anxiety. “I know I’m broken now, but-..”
“Evan.” Tommy’s voice is commanding. Something about the way his voice sounds in that tone always cuts through the static in his head and straightens his spine; like Tommy really wants him to hear what he’s saying.

chapter 4 of empty bones is live 🙃
title: a set of empty bones rating: e warnings: graphic depictions of violence, non-con chapters 4/? (this was supposed to be a one, maybe two shot. and now we just keep riding the edge of a lightning bolt 😂) summary:
“I want to go upstairs,” he states. There’s a quiver to his tone, but not from a place of anxiety. Tommy thinks it has more to do with the suggestion.
“Are you sure,” he asks, curling a finger under Evan’s chin to turn his face towards him. Still, there’s a clarity in those blue eyes he hasn’t seen in the past five days, and Tommy can tell he’s resolute in the decision.
“Okay,” he states to the unasked question. “Let’s go.”
