Literally saw a post with people dredging up old interview quotes Davies gave about regeneration and basically saying (not a direct quote, but I do think I've captured thes entiment) "Note to future showrunners: People get really, really attached to a given Doctor so you shouldn't just regenerate a Doctor for the sake of it, that's basically like killing a fav character for a lot of people"

Even if Ncuti Gatwa had decided to stay on for the rest of his natural life, and the show kept going until he was ninety… he would die, eventually.

The whole point of the show is that it can go on forever, and the only limits are those imposed by your own ability to conceive of new ideas. Why should that be sacrificed just so the viewers aren't ever made to feel uncomfortable? What, are we just supposed to pretend that death doesn't exist anymore? I know the tech CEOs would dearly love us to use AI to resurrect those who have passed away, whether it be William Hartnell or your own grandmother, but that's not what media should be about.

Shit that's not what *life* should be about.

I realise that it's a lot to extrapolate out of one stupid Tumblr post. But it's not one stupid Tumblr post, it's an entire cultural edifice built around people wanting to pretend that things can stay the same as they were when they were fourteen forever (and spoiler alert: when you were fourteen, the world still sucked! You were in high school! Even if you set aside the whole "You just didn't know about bad geopolitical events" of it all, your world still probably sucked and you hated it, in one way or another!) and it's just *exhausting*.
