“I was asked not to give a speech today,” William gestured casually to Emma as she pressed her hands to her face, red with embarrassment. “But, I never listen,” he took a swing of the expensive champagne he had browbeat her into supplying- it’s your wedding you hussy, you need to serve the good stuff- before becoming utterly serious, his voice bellowing now from the podium he had commandeered from Belle, her golden dress shimmering as if in mild exasperation, as she stood to the left of the low stage. 

“Dearly beloved,” he started and Killian sputtered into his glass, “we have come together on this day, to drink free booze, and to celebrate a miracle.” 

His audience tittered, laughter tinkling like the light clinking of crystal which preceded William’s overthrowing of the stage moments before as Emma hid behind her hands.

“I met Emma Swan,” he paused for dramatic effect, “sorry, sorry, I forgot why we’re all here,” he held his free hand up in placation, “Emma Jones,” they tittered again, “long before she met Killian.” 

“Oh no,” Emma whispered, turning her face to rest her chin on her new husband’s shoulder. 

“And while I have a fair number of good stories about those days, that’s not why we’re here,” Emma sighed in relief, “I was there that night, The Night, as it were,” William had settled into storytelling mode and had, as usual, wrapped his audience up with his tale. “In fact, Emma! I almost forgot!” He feigned shock and turned once more to Emma, and she buried her face deeper into Killian’s neck, “aren’t you glad you didn’t have a quarter on you?”

WIP Wednesday: Silly Love Songs - A SilverHook Tale

The countdown to my bestie's birthday is on!! Only 6 more days until we celebrate the beautiful and fabulous @donteattheappleshook's birthday (and her birthday fic gets released!).

This is a modern au SilverHook in which William Scarlet is actually the main character and everyone else is just part of his show - he's sassy and totes adorable. You'll love him (I hope!).

Emma Nolan was playing a dangerous game. 

He had been telling her that for ages, voice rough in the soft light of morning as she whispered her game into his skin, teeth nipping at his shoulder while she giggled and pressed firmly into him, warning her that something like this would happen. 

But she couldn’t stop herself; the thrill of it rushed through her as she kept the two men entirely separated by a few letters in the contacts of her phone. Even with the near constant threat of mixing up messages that loomed over her, she would smirk and type out a message to her boyfriend- I’m a bit old for that title, love- a mixture of text and emojis which would have him squinting in annoyance at her message, flushing deeply to the tips of his ears as he deciphered the explicit hieroglyphics she had sent him. 

She had teased him, it was so easy to do, laying draped across his back in their Boston apartment before the accident which uprooted both of their lives- as she groaned against the light streaming in through the curtains he insisted on leaving open- years of Royal Navy service, darling- which shone bright across her face, that while he may not be old enough to be her father, he was old enough to be her daddy. He’d grumbled and growled and called her a pervert, but the small secret smile which he tried desperately to hide between his teeth gave him away and she sucked a mark into his shoulder. 

Fine- she smirked as his hand connected solidly with her ass, a loud crack through the quiet room- we do need to move at some point, my love- pushing the quilt off herself, feet curling at the shock of the cold floor under her- you can be my man-friend instead.

He had tackled her, blunted wrist tight against her middle- that sounds like a dog- hauling her back to the nest of blankets before pressing her beneath him, ignoring the chirping of her alarm. 

That had been over three years ago, and while he still grumbled about it every so often, he had stayed that way in her contacts, making her smile each time a message pinged across her screen.

“Bugger,” the key scraped against the lock, light and flighty as though it was teasing him. His tongue poked out the side of his mouth, concentrating harder as if sheer stubbornness would get him to her faster. 

His pocket buzzed, and he grunted at the interruption, closing one eye in an attempt at better aim. It took a handful more tries, curing under his breath while the silent anger of his cell phone thummed as if alive in the back pocket of his jeans. 

Rob would no doubt be looking for him, annoyed that he’d left, or perhaps worried as to where he had gotten to, disappearing out the back entrance, jacket abandoned in the booth, hailing a cab and returning to the apartment he hadn’t wanted to leave in the first place. 

“Ah ha,” he grinned, turning the knob quickly, the smell of cranberry candles- I don’t care if it’s not Christmas yet, babe, I’m burning it- hanging softly in the air. They had gone shopping, him smiling indulgently as she skipped around Bath & Body Works, thrusting bottles and jars into his face- smell this one!- asking which he preferred. When the dozens of overly scented products had started to smell the same, he had pulled her to him, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth, her hands occupied holding three different soaps, and pressed a kiss to her mouth, tasting her smile under his lips.

“What does this mean?” Her dad’s confusion added to the awfulness of the whole situation, and Leo seized the moment, popping up from the table and sliding to his father’s side, crashing into him at the shoulder in his haste to see what all the fuss was about.

Could you die from embarrassment? Emma felt the blood start to pool at her feet, perhaps she could pass out and they would all forget about this?

“That’s a dong!”

“Shut up!” Emma hissed, suddenly 17 again with a six year old brother accusing her of farting at the table with her date sitting beside her.

“Why would you send dad a dong?”

“I didn’t-”

“But you did.”

“Leo, enough!” her mother was bright red, second hand embarrassment radiating off of her.

“That wasn’t meant for Dad!”

“How do you get your boyfriend and your dad mixed up?” Leo wheezed, breathing laboured through the peels of laughter at her expense.

“I-” 

She knew exactly how. She knew this would happen, it was almost part of the fun, but she hadn’t actually wanted it to, nor had she considered being in the same room as her family when it did. 

She still hadn’t died or passed out… 

They were all staring at her, wide eyed and unamused except for Leo who looked as if he might die of happiness any moment. 

“So,” her little brother piped up- he’s your younger brother, love, trust me, it matters, aye?- smile widening as whatever question he had thought up bubbled to the surface. “When do we get to meet dong dude?” Her mother gasped in horror and smacked him on the back of the head, but the abolishment did little to tame the glee which still sat on his face.

Tell me more about this reality of yours- his fingers, calloused from time and labour and the hardness of the world, trailed slowly across her ribs as she sighed, relaxing into the feel of him, sure and strong and hers again for the moment.

“Tell me” his breath warm on her face, “about us, you say we are close, aye?” His eyebrow ticked familiarly upwards while the smirk which slid easily across his face was one she had kissed countless times before.

“Yes, very,” Emma shifted, naked and damp from the bath, skin warm against his as she lay across his chest, the smattering of silver through his beard scratching lightly under her nails as she stroked down his jaw.

He had lain beside her, unsure and careful until she had wrapped a hand around his neck, hair toying against her fingertips- you need a haircut- like it had the last time, three nights ago on the Jolly, they had been like this. She had carded her hands through his hair, tugging lightly as she gasped his name, his mouth on her skin, heart thudding in her chest with the overwhelmingness of the words crashing around inside of her.

She offered to cut it, sweat covered and breathless, having collapsed on top of him, his grin at her throat- hush, Swan, you’ll wake the whole town- voice rasped and teasing. She sassed him back, still curled on his chest, content for the moment to simply be held by him- that’s rich- remembering back to the time Granny caught them at the inn.

He hummed, caressing the shell of her ear as he slid a curl back across her shoulder- I’m starting to get jealous of the other me- the sound settling deeper into her battered soul. His hand continued it’s journey skirting down her arm, turning her wrist up and over, inspecting the still raw skin from where the manacles had held her in that tower.

“They don’t hurt anymore,” she whispered at his frown, his eyes worried, brows pulled down in concern.

He hummed again, a sound she had heard before, a gruff denial of whatever it was she was trying to convince him of- you don’t need to walk me back, you know, I’m pretty sure I can find the loft by myself- as he placed a soft kiss above the angry red lines.

“We should wrap them again,” he murmured, pulling away from her to rise from the safety of their nest, the fire crackling still at the corner of the room, warm watery shadows spread across the ceiling. He was back in a moment, a wrap of linen in his hand, the ointment he had applied on the Jolly tucked securely in his palm. She hadn’t realized he’d brought it with him, though she should have known, should have anticipated he would look after her, even here with no memory of who she was or what they were.

A Modern SilverHook Tale {Coming Soon-ish}

She was something remarkable he hadn’t hoped to even wish for, seated at the bar of a too cool lounge, nursing an Old Fashioned and feeling that way himself. You’re too young to be lonely- set up on a blind date with a friend of a friend, Killian had sighed and allowed his gaze to wander the bar.

She hadn’t been there to meet him, but such as with everything magical in the world, he had found her regardless. He texted Belle while Emma was at the bar ordering another round- do you want a gin and tonic? They make the best ones here- an apology that he wouldn’t be able to make the date she had kindly set up, and to pass his regrets on to the lady. They had sat together, glassware littered across the table as she taught him to catch the olives she tossed in the air, the muted light above the corner booth comfortable and concealing, and he had thought it a one time thing. But she took his phone and texted herself- there, now you have to call me- a smirk on her lovely face. And he did, the next morning, eager and happy, a new feeling he was afraid of getting used to.

She’d blown into his world, stubborn and beautiful and tenacious, a siren his old worn heart had not a hope of resisting. Not that he had wanted to. He would have given her anything she wished, still would in fact, but the strange truth of her want for only him warmed his heart.

“Where’s your rum?” Emma teased, the taste of goat milk strong and sour on her palate. They were safe for now, the dragon vanquished, though they all knew the winged beast was only the start of their adventure. He was different here. Not simply older, though he was certainly that, hair streaked through with grey. Hard-earned lines crossed his still handsome face, though they certainly were not from laughter - that knowledge sat heavily in the pit of her stomach. What had happened to him? She wondered, watching him from the corner of her eye as he captained the ship he had loved for more than two centuries, a vessel which was as much a  stranger to him as she was.

“Old bones, love,” he smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes the way it should, and her heart lurched once more. The sunlight cut across his face much the same way it always had, the angles of his jaw casting shadows deep as fathoms. But there was an air of tiredness to him now, the grey peppering through his beard aging him less than the sag of his shoulders, weary with not only the time which stretched  now between them, but for a life he was never meant to have lived without her. A step closer and she inhaled the familiar scent of him, something Gold and the author hadn’t been able to replace. The Jolly swayed familiarly beneath her feet as she hung on to the rope above her head while Henry came back up to the deck- can I sail her now?- and she watched him once more with her son.

Anger flared in her chest, hot and snapping like a caged beast. Why had they done this to him? She watched as this strange altered version of her fearsome pirate smiled wearily at her son, the bond which had grown and blossomed between them over the last months now a shadow of what they were.

Where does that leave us? she worried, the Jolly humming to life as Killian grasped the helm once more, chafed wrists painful now that the adrenaline of escape ebbed from her blood, but it would wait, and she stood against the rail, solid and familiar, watching the sun settle low on the sea.
