Hi, I still exist.
I’m doing well in every sense besides social anxiety. It’s never been this bad, and I’m saying this as someone who agonizes over texts with close friends and who hasn’t listened to a voicemail or answered a call in about 4 years.
On the bright side, I’ve been on bipolar meds for about four months now, and it’s the first time in my life that I’ve felt such a significant, quantifiable change in my mental health and well-being. My psych nurse practitioner identified some symptoms that I thought were just personality traits. She thinks it’s possible that the time in my life that I was the most social, productive and creative (while also miserable and self-destructive) may have been a period of mania or hypomania. I’m happy for the relief - the best way I can describe it is that an itch that couldn’t be scratched stopped itching - but I also feel kind of drab, and that all hope of my creativity and productivity returning has been snuffed out. I know that it’s more complicated than that. I have some adjusting to do and some changes to make.
I’ve been peeking in from time to time to see how you’re doing. Yes, you. I love getting glimpses into your life and seeing the beauty you are adding to the world. Your accomplishments make me proud and happy, and when you struggle I’m here rooting for you.
Thanks for being my friend. <3
