ASHEVILLE NC—Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College will host an upcoming presentation on coal as part of Earth Week on campus. The presentation will take place in Ferguson Auditorium, on the Asheville campus, at 4pm this Wednesday, April 24th. The Student Government Association has invited some key community organizations to speak about coal sourcing, combustion and dealing with the byproduct of our local electricity, coal ash.
The invited guests will are knowledgeable experts from local organizations. WNC Alliance, Sierra Club, Appalachian Voices and journalist Rhiannon Fionn-Bowman, will all be in attendance to cover everything from current mining practices, current legislation and local environmental impacts of our own coal burning power plant. These guests will provide the audience an informative presentation on coal, how we use it and how we can prevent its negative impacts on our local environment.
All are invited to attend this free event. Community members, students and faculty all have the opportunity to learn about what happens when you flip the switch at your home, plug your laptop into the wall or make that first cup of coffee in the morning. Experts are here to help make the connection between coal and the power we all consume. The event will be held at the A-B Tech Asheville campus in Ferguson Auditorium at 4pm. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Student group, GreenPowerAVL and the Department of Construction Science both support the event, which is sponsored by the SGA.
