SOPHIE BREAKS OUT IN TEARS ON HER FIRST SHOWCASE FOR HER NEW ALBUM ’ MOONLIGHT ’ + HOLDS A SPECIAL V-LIVE WITH HER PARENTS AND BOYFRIEND
On December 8th, Sophie was holding a showcase to introduce her second mini album ’ Moonlight ’. Many of her idol friends attended the event and special guests that day were the soloist’s parents, who, according to insiders, got invited to the showcase by Sophie’s boyfriend Sehun. The surprise visit of the couple caught the young idol off guard and made her cry on stage before she hugged her family close. After the showcase the family plus Sehun gathered to have a small chat on the V-Live app where the visual couple once again showed off their great chemistry as well as how close the male and his girlfriend’s parents are.
Sophie’s showcase started with the female idol welcoming the people who attended the showcase and thanking them for taking their time to watch her perform. Explaining the concept of the album, which revolves around the feeling of being in love with someone, she added that two of the album’s songs, the title track ’ Crazy In Love ’ and ’ Thinking About Us ( Your Eyes ) ’, were co-written by her. The latter was written by the female soloist herself and her boyfriend, One Shot’s drummer Sehun and is therefore a very personal and emotional song. The album’s production did none other than Rien from the band Hydrae, who is known as a skilled artist and producer and a close friend of the younger female.
Right after Sophie performed the intro song, ’ Sinful Apple ’, together with the leader and main rapper Kuno from Mount Record’s boy band UNPLUGGED, Sehun entered the stage together with Sophie’s parents. The elderly couple flew all the way from New York to Seoul to support their daughter on her newest work, which resulted in the female idol crying tears of happiness on stage after spotting them. Sophie’s personal make up artist and friend, Jinri, who also worked with Sophie for her first solo ’ 25 ’, was the first on stage to comfort Sophie before she made room for the celebrity to hug and welcome her parents to South Korea and especially her showcase.
Memorable guests on the showcase were the artists who performed together with Sophie, like UNPLUGGED’s Kuno ( TWT: @KUNOTWT ) and X: RAY’s Maze ( @fyeah-maze ), as well as soloist U-Sik ( @fy-usik ) from Mount Records, but also idols from other labels as L:OVELESS Mina ( @91mna ) and Sophie’s close friend and soloist Bang Chaeyeong ( @bachye ) and Amaterasu ( TWT: @HimuraRasu ) for hosting the showcase.
Aside from those, many friends of the female soloist showed up to support her, on the list being famous idols like SHINEE’s Key ( TWT: @kkeybums ), soloist BoA ( @oneqonec ), GOT7′s JB ( TWT: @defjeff_kr ), soloist Cola ( @dyetcola ) from other companies, as well as Sophie’s fellow labelmates, LUNE’s Luca ( TWT: @aIfheim_ ), KAMELLE’S Ahyeon ( TWT: @95YEON ), Siyeon from the idol group TRICKSTER ( @siiveon ) and Sophie’s fellow Mellow member Rylee ( @rylhae ).
Sophie was also spotted with her friends Nabi ( TWT: @nabimuyong ), FAIRYSKIN’s CEO Altair ( TWT: @V0EUX ), MBC News intern Bae Jiyeon ( TWT: @jinalssi ), model Christine Grace Vance ( @chrvstn ) as well as Spencer Cho ( TWT: @iamsori_ ) and a dance instructore called Jaxon ( TWT: @cvrnation ) who is a good friend of the female.. Sophie’s boyfriend Sehun ( @sehunxbt ) and her personal make up artist Jinri ( TWT: @jiinkiez ) were also supporting the woman on her solo showcase.
After perfoming the artist held a cute V-Live together with her boyfriend and parents, replying to questions regarding her solo, relationship, Sehun’s schedules and also her family. The couple impressed the viewers with their great chemistry and many cute moments, as well as how comfortable Sophie’s parents seemed around the pair.

“ ’ Moonlight ’ is, unlike my last solo work, not really a message but rather an album with a description. We tried to describe and put the emotions you feel when you’re in love into words and deliver them to the listener. That’s why the songs differ a lot from each other: Because love, or the feeling of falling in love with someone, isn’t something you can describe easily and in one way, if you can describe it in the first place, that is. Love has different faces and includes a various set of feelings which you sometimes can’t explain or put into words. While the songs all have the same core, the same topic, ’ love ’, in the end they all are different from each other and in the feeling they portray.
You can say that the first three songs of the album are about the adventurous and wild side of love. It’s the side that wants you to try out new things and get the kick and boost of adrenaline from these new experiences. They’re about intimacy and wanting more of each other, including the dangerous parts of love and how easily the ’ want ‘can turn into a ’ need ’, something you can’t live without.
’ Sinful Apple ’ is a cute song with innuendos and a hidden, suggestive meaning. Just like Eve couldn’t withstand the temptation to take a bite from the apple in paradise, the song is about wanting to give in to the temptation and lust that comes with love and cross ’ the forbidden lines ’, but in a rather playful way and because of curiosity.
’ Crazy In Love ’ is a song about falling in love with someone. I co-wrote it and I think it’s a great and catchy work that describes very well how you feel during the process of falling for someone. When you fall, all you can think of is the person you have your eyes on and that’s a good thing, but there’s also the danger of falling too deeply into the person. When I first wrote the song I didn’t think of the hidden message behind the lyrics, I didn’t think of it as something ’ extreme ’ but the more I thought about it, the more I was reminded of how dangerous love can be. Love can consume and blind you, leaving your mind blank and focus only on the person you like. It’s when the ’ I want you ’ turns into an ’ I need you ’ that love becomes dangerous because you’re letting a person influence your life to a point where you can’t handle a life without the person you fell for. I think this rather dark view of the song makes it so interesting and I’m very happy that I was able to put it down in the MV, because love is something very powerful that can destroy not only yourself, but the person you love as well if it gets put of control.
’ Magic ’ is going into the same direction, you could say it’s a continuation of the title track. It’s about needing the person you love and how you seek to receive their love in exchange for yours. When you’re loving someone there’s nothing more you want than your feelings to be reciprocated and that the person you have your eyes on will accept you and your feelings towards them. The lyrics hint that there’s a ’ Magic spell ’ that makes it impossible to ’ escape ’, meaning to see someone else and accept someone else’s love.
Meanwhile the other tracks cover the cute and gentle side of love, for example the anticipation of confessions and the excitement that comes with being close to each other in ’ Tell Me ’. The lyrics are about wanting things to change this night, to go from being friends to something more. The calm and composed melody matches the lyrics well, closely and slowly to not ruin the moment the person in the song is throwing hints on how things are going to change once the important question, ’ Who is it now? ’ is asked.
’ Always For You ’ is a song with a gentle R&B vibe. This song’s lyrics include a small story. It begins with the wish for something more, waiting for the other ” to make a move “ before the time switches and they’re taking care and thinking of each other a lot, things that hint an ongoing relationship. In the end there’s a point where the lyrics go ” You are my baby “, which only confirms the relationship part or at least suggests that those two are on the same page when it comes to their relationship. All in all its a very soft song that shows the side of love where you want to always be there for the person you love.
’ Moondance ’ is basically describing the change from being infatuated to being in love. It’s when everything you do comes naturally and you don’t even realize that you adjusted your steps to align your steps with the steps of your loved one. Full of metaphors, the lyrics indicate that two people came together like two puzzle pieces that fit, making the relationship something special with how well they match during the time of a relationship where you are still a little cautious but also trying to open up to let the person read you like an open book.
I don’t think I have to explain ’ Thinking About Us ’ since it’s a song with lyrics that are my and Sehun’s honest feelings, I just want to mention that it’s our first track we worked on together. Because we relate to the lyrics, it’s a very personal song.
The outro of ’ Moonlight ’ is one of my favorite songs in this album, not because of its lyrics and the cute meaning behind them but because it’s like a call in the morning, after you spent the night without the person you love. It was fun to pretend I’m calling someone, even making a kissing sound ! “
