Calgary, AB – HipHopCanada has teamed up with Obey the Crooks for the debut of their dope new “Third Eye” video. We know you’ve been waiting for it to drop and just want to get to watching it. But here’s the lowdown: The track features A.Y.E. and MAXJULLIAN. And it verges on posse-cut territory. MAXJULLIAN drops the first verse. Then OTC’s singer-producer, Samuel “Beach Season” Avant, switches things up by singing his verse. We love OTC because they’re a rapper-singer duo. It’s an odd combination, and they own it.
Then the Crooks’ rapper half, Simon “Monski” Blitzer, whips out some really tight rhymes. And A.Y.E. closes the track while the boys destroy window panes, and burn things in a fire. It’s some serious “Third Eye” business. And the visuals are downright esoteric. The video was directed by Henry Acteson for Cutaway Visuals. And OTC did all of the production, themselves. And we just got word that the Crooks are dropping their forthcoming Care Package mixtape on Sept. 8 (that’s next week) and this track is going to be on it. According to Monski, the tape includes a bunch of dope new material, as well as some solo work from Monski and Beach Season, respectively. “It’s kind of a literal ‘mix,’ in that the songs don’t have a common theme or pattern. But the OTC feeling is there,” he said.

Advocates for Youth Efficacy (A.Y.E.) is creating a future where youths are empowered to make a difference. Many times society’s leaders do not embrace youth ideas and needs-A.Y.E. exists to change this by aiding and facilitating youth involvement in society. The 1 in Too Campaign is raising awareness and support of child abuse victims. The sale of 1 in Too bands will raise money to donate to the Joyful Heart Foundation. Funds raised for this campaign will go towards the purchase of these bands and the enhancement of A.Y.E.’s website to process donations.
The Cost of Freedom Project is creating a future where every citizen has equal access to the ballot box. Eight states in the U.S. currently require individuals to show a government-issued photo-ID to vote. Many times, there are high costs to obtain copies of documentation needed to get these IDs and this mainly affects African Americans, Latino Americans, and citizens between the age of 18 and 24. The Cost of Freedom Project is developing a location-based Voter ID app that will cut through the confusion and provide voters with concise information on how to apply for a voter ID. Funds for this campaign will help pay for a developer, web designer, user experience designer, database manager, and webhosting so that the project can launch its Voter ID App on April 4, 2012.
Alumn.us is an online platform that brings together students, alumni, parents, and staff and offers them the tools they need to support the schools they care about. This makes it easy for students, teachers, and parents to launch targeted fundraising campaigns, develop college and career mentoring programs, and build lasting relationships for their schools. Alumn.us’ campaign on StartSomeGood will help launch a pilot program in two schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
ThinkARETÉ is transforming young adults from high potential to high performing through F.O.C.U.S. programs (Focused Opportunities Cause Unlimited Success). It offers life coaching and provides aspirational young adults with the fundamentals and skills they need to live an optimal life.
