June and Vexx realizing their feelings for Traveler
June
Since he had brought you on board, he kept thinking about how he could help you to adapt to this new life that was forced on you. As happy and relieved he was to have saved your life, he also believed that he was now responsible of bringing you comfort and attention.
That's how he naturally started to look out for your smile, for those little creases that appeared around your eyes when you were happy, for your charming giggles. He simply felt at ease everytime you started glowing.
An evening like any other, you two were chatting, looking into the space through the window of the corridor that lead to your room. You had taken the habit to speak there until tiredness made you yawn and and rejoined your room.
And once again, you were feeling at peace standing next to him, small bursts of laughter often escaping your lips.
But what was usually enough -and even more than that- seemed so little to him this night. A feeling of frustration appeared in his chest and rapidly spread, confusing him. He looked at you, again, and for the first time he wished not only for you to smile, but for you to smile to him. He wished for those bright eyes to get even brighter when meeting his. He wished for his hands on you, for yours on him, for your lips tenderly touching and for a life by your side.
He was processing those information, trying to reach a logical conclusion that had however already burned his mind. He loved you. Not like he liked anyone else, not like he had loved anyone, and probably not like he would ever love again.
He grinned to himself. The contentment that comes with loving someone was already replacing his former frustration, and left him ready to make you smile ; not because he felt obligated to, and not because he felt good when doing so, but simply because from now on, you were what mattered the most.

He crossed the corridor and swiftly entered your room, eager to share a tale he had just heard from an retired space-trader.
His excitement vanished when he noticed you were not rushing to welcome him. Silence was strangely dominant. Panick rose inside him while he scanned your suite, his hand already on his weapon.
A sleepy moan caught his attention, and he followed the sound : it lead him to your room where he finally saw you. You were laying on the ground, eyes closed, your slow and steady breath shyly breaking the silence. A wave of relief hit him, and he chided himself for panicking so quickly. He stepped in and noticed a huge map on the floor, on which multiples circles of different colors indicated places he had told you about.
He smiled, amused by your old-fashioned means but also deeply touched by your dedication to your dreams, and your trust in his promises. He knelt next to you and cautiously lifted you. Your sleeping body was warm and he felt as if you were trying to communicate this warmth to him. He had to reason himself to lay you down on your bed.
He then adjusted the sheets, making sure you were comfortably dreaming, and removed a strand of hair from your face. His own visage suddenly felt hot and everyting from his heart to his muscles tensed. That's when he knew that he could not win against his feelings anymore ; the liking he had taken to you was definitely not an emotion he should have as a guard, nor as a friend. He had hoped not to feel anything towards you, conscious of his position and of yours. But the more he was looking at you, the more he was certain.
He got suddenly overwhelmed by what meant this love.
He cast a renewed gaze at you, a hopeful yet terrified one. Distressed feelings already creeping over his love, he spoke up, as if to fight those negative sentiments :
- I swear to protect you.
But the lonely tear rolling down his cheek betrayed his terrible and profound presentiment.
