Aqours Finale Love Live —永久stage—
I just realized something here.
Taking from the picture, it is clearly visible that the ‘q’ in Aqours’ name was actually written as a ‘9′ and not as an actual ‘q’ letter.
Aqours is pronounced as ‘A-Ku-A’, which is a corrupted spelling of Aqua which itself means water. And taking on LLSS setting on a beach town, this name seems fitting enough.
However, on the light of this revelation, there is another major symbolism that is contained within the name.
To understand this symbolism, we need to write the name this way: A9ours. If we split the first letter, the number 9, and the ‘ours’, then we’ll get:
“A-9-Ours”
‘A nine ours’ or perhaps to be precise ‘a nine of us’ or ‘a group that is nine of us’. This symbolizes the number of members (9) in the group and the group’s importance to its members: a group that represents ‘us’.
Not just that. The pronunciation ‘A-Ku-A’ for Aqours is also a play of words. The number 9 in Japanese is ‘ku’ or ‘kyuu’, thus the ‘ku’ inside ‘A-Ku-A’ is in fact an explicit description of the group’s numbers: 9 persons. This gives the name an even greater meaning than just a seemingly random word.
Note that this is nothing more than a mere speculation on my part. However, should this theory is proven true, then I am willing to retract what I’ve said regarding to the name Aqours back in my episode 3 rant and I admit that this name is indeed precious and meaningful.
