“Here. Just because it’s you, I’ll rephrase. You have a certain… tendency… for getting into trouble that I always have to dig you out of.” He cocked a brow and smirked. “Better?”
“Not even close!”
Ok so this is gonna be a bit of a rant but @jaysketchin‘s ‘Sharp Words and Sharper Swords’ has to be one of my all time favourite fiction pieces I have ever read. The quick witty dialogue, the humour and the way their banter builds up so effortlessly is something I have literally cried over, both with laughter and love!
It may be a bit snooty of me to admit that I typically don’t reread or rewatch things unless I absolutely adore them, but for me that’s the truth and I stick by it. The actual ‘Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ show I’ve only watched 3 complete times, and the original 80′s movie maybe 5 times, and I love both of them to pieces. So when I say that I’ve read this over 50 times AT LEAST you have to take my word that this writing is something that is very close to my heart and has meant the world to me over the past few months.
I’ve actually just come out of a stressful point of first year university assessments being due and not having the time to talk with any of my friends, sleep a full 8 hours, and sometimes not even having the time to be able to eat a full meal. It’s left me shattered and exhausted most days, which is why I haven’t been too active on this blog for the past wee while (sorry about that!). However, when I caught the 7 o’clock train in the mornings to get to my 8:30am university classes, I was left with my only hour of free time I got for the entire day - an hour without wifi crampt in a public carriage too noisy to sleep in. Most days, I would spend this hour reading either Sharp Words and Sharper Swords, or reading Endurance of the Heart, which would give me a chuckle and a smile and let me continue my day with a bright start.
You might be wondering how I got the time to draw this, with such a busy schedule. Well, I actually drew this several months ago, before my assessments took over. I never posted it because I was too concerned with Gurjin’s face, as I didn’t think his mouth looked right and had no clue how to fix it this far in the process. That being said, this is actually the third revision of this drawing, the first one having both Gurjin’s and Rian’s heads far too large (they’re still quite large now, but at least they don’t look like bobble heads anymore) and the second one having Gurjin’s face looking completely different (I redrew it to make it look better - it didn’t work). I can easily say this is been the most strenuous drawing I’ve done in years, and if I were to guess 20+ hours of work have been put into it.
So if I still don’t think its perfect, why am I posting it? Well, long story short, to congratulate and thank @jaysketchin once again for her stories. Because at the end of the day, that’s what they are. Stories of characters that don’t exist, but have helped me get through a really tough point in my life, and will continue to make me and others smile through the rougher times. And Jay, I hope that ultimately this finds you well, and you know how much your work has helped me and others. So thank you.
And congrats for finishing Endurance of the Heart! I don’t want to say too much about it, as this is long enough as it is, but the last chapter broke my heart in the best possible way. Thank you <3
TL:DR - Sharp Words, Sharper Swords and Endurance of the Heart are the best things I’ve ever read and you’re missing out on the best kind of writing if you don’t give them a shot!
the divergent movie disappointed me tbh i really liked the books and the main protagonist and i think they were portrayed correctly in the movie i was just sad about how they changed several details it just overall annoyed me because of that reason like they really couldve done better imo but if you havent read the series before and you go out to watch it, it really is a pretty good movie yeah
and i will pee on my humanities professor if she fails me because of my inability to write essays in spanish.
