Two pink lines.
Allison had been feeling a little off, her stomach more upset than normal and her body more tired and achy. But she figured it was just a flare, or some little bug that a patient brought in, maybe allergies kicking in early. She'd been told in her early twenties of her high risk of infertility, that there was a good chance that she wouldn't be able to have children.
And that had been fine. She was young, she had the hospital to focus on and patients to take care of. Babies weren't even a thought for her back then, so it was easy to accept that they would not be part of her future.
And yet... those two pink lines are clear.
It takes a few days, and several more tests, for her to wrap her head around it. A few more to work up the courage to invite Andrew over with the intent to tell him. Her bottom lip is near bloody from how she's been anxiously chewing at it waiting for him to arrive.
Now here he is, sitting in front of her on the couch, and she feels like her heart is going to beat right out of her chest, her hands shaking behind her back. But she has to tell him. Wants so badly to tell him, even though she's unsure of how he'll take it.
Allison takes a breath, then brings her hands in front of her, holding that first positive test.
"Andrew.. I'm pregnant."
