if you bring up omegaverse or mpreg when trans and intersex men try to have discussions about pregnancy you owe every trans and intersex man everything you own
Summary: Request: Ive seen fic where Jack x reader had cryptic pregnancy but they found out about it later when she was like 6 months in? and I think it would be more interesting if reader would have her normal shift and goes into labor without knowing she is pregnant (babygirl bc jack would be such a great girl dad🥹)
TW: Cryptic pregnancy, birth
You always hated pulling mid-shifts. It was never easy on your sleep schedule. Too early for night shift, too late for day shift. You weren’t surprised when you woke up feeling off. Jack was still very much asleep.
“Call in.” He grumbled, pulling you closer before you could escape.
“I can’t. My boss will kill me.” You chuckled.
“I’m your boss. It’s fine.” He kissed your shoulder.
“Dana and Lena are my boss. They will be pissed. I’m telling them you think you’re the boss, by the way.” You wiggled out of his grasp.
The only good part of working in the middle of two shifts, was getting to see everyone. And the fact that you came in when everyone had claimed patients, so you got to start slow.
“Hey, sweetheart. You look a little pale? You doing okay?” Dana watched you flop into the seat next to her.
“Just tired. And achy. Must be getting my period soon.” You sighed.
“Take it easy if you need to. Don’t run yourself into the ground.” She gave you a stern look over the top of her glasses.
“Yeah, yeah.” You smiled.
The day seemed to crawl by. The cramps were getting worse and worse. You’d always had bad cramps, to the point you thought you might have endometriosis. They never found anything. But it was starting to get out of hand.
You ignored it and kept pushing through the pain. You just had to get through a few more hours. You groaned as you saw Jack walk in. He was going to see right through you.
“Whoa. You look like shit.” He said walking up to you.
“Charming.” You snapped.
“I’m serious. You don’t look good at all. What’s going on?” He put a hand on the small of your back.
“Just cramps. And nausea. But that’s because of the cramps.” You shook your head.
“Honey-”
“Jack, I have a few more hours and then I can go home and relax. Let me get through this.” You sighed.
“Fine. Fine. But if it gets worse, I’m calling it. Understood?” He pointed at you.
“You just get off by being in charge.” You rolled your eyes.
“Bet your sweet ass I do.” He smirked.
“Keep it professional, for god sake.” Dana scoffed.
The shift slowly progressed. It was a glacier pace. You were really starting to feel like shit. Once a patient noted how sweaty and pale you were, you knew you couldn’t fight it anymore.
“Dana, where’s Jack?” You leaned over the counter, the pain too much to stand up and bear.
“Finishing up in trauma one. Sweetheart, you have to sit down.” She rushed over to your sweaty form.
“No, I won’t get back up.” You waved her off. “I just need Jack-”
“Jesus, fuck!” Jack barked as he ran over to you. “Honey! You’re off the floor. Dana what’s open?”
“Room 2. I’ll send Robby your way.” She ushered you toward the room.
“It got so bad I couldn’t move for a second.” You leaned into Jack’s side for support.
“You should have gotten me before it got this bad.” He criticized.
“I know. I thought it was nothing.” You whined as you sat on the bed. “My hips are killing me.”
“Let’s get you in a gown.” Jack said, helping you strip your scrubs off.
“I hate being the patient.” You mumbled as he tied the back of the gown closed.
“No one likes it.” He kissed your cheek.
“Knock, knock.” Robby entered the room with a sympathetic smile. “Oh, yeah. Dana was not exaggerating.”
“Keep your comments on my appearance to yourself, Robinavitch.” You hissed.
“Sorry.” Robby put his hands up. “Tell me what’s going on?” He snapped on his gloves.
“Abdominal pain, nausea, sweating. It comes and goes, but it’s getting worse.” You groan as he presses on your belly.
“Definitely guarding. Ever had your appendix removed?” He asked.
“No. You think it’s my appendix?” You sat up.
“Could be. We’ll get some blood work going and I’d like to do an ultrasound. Any chance you could be pregnant?” Robby looked between you and Jack.
“I doubt it, but you should probably check.” You sighed.
“I appreciate the honesty. I’ll be back once we have results.” Robby nodded.
“Hey, Rockstar, gonna get your blood going.” Perlah came in.
“Full panel, please.” Robby ordered.
“You got it.” Perlah smiled as she set up her station.
“You have patients to look after.” You looked up at Jack.
“They can hold down the fort without me. Shen’s got it.” Jack said, pulling the chair closer to your bed.
“Let us take care of you.” Perlah gave you a stern look.
“Alright, I concede. I don’t have the fight in me anyway.” You gave a half-hearted laugh.
The pain only increased as you waited for blood work. Robby had apologized for the wait on the ultrasound as a trauma had come in. You were curled in a ball, panting and sweating. Jack was getting more and more anxious, more and more angry at the wait.
“That’s it.” He growled as he jumped up and stormed out of the room. “Robinavitch!” He barked.
“Jack. I was just on my way over. I’m sorry.” Robby sighed, seeing the red growing on Jack’s face.
“She’s in a ball, shaking in pain! Get a move on!” Jack stomped back to the room.
“Yelling never makes anything faster.” You grumbled.
“Worth a try.” Jack sighed.
“Sorry for the wait!” Robby came in with the ultrasound machine.
“Get to it, Robby.” Jack snapped.
“Relax.” You shot him a look.
“Hey, Robby!” Perlah came running in with a tablet in hand. “Her blood work just got back. You need to take a look.” She handed him the tablet.
“What’s wrong?” Jack sat up, taking your hand. He knew that if a nurse was worried, it was bad.
“Oh. Okay. Wow.” Robby cleared his throat.
“It’s cancer. I’m dying. I knew it!” You groaned.
“Not cancer. You’re pregnant.” Robby said.
“What!?” You and Jack looked at each other in shock.
“What’s the hcG?” Jack swallowed, trying to get his voice to work.
“Well…117,000. With, it looks like, an increased blood volume.” Robby said.
“What are you saying?” You asked him, getting frustrated by the coy nature of his demeanor.
“By the looks of your blood work, and I have to confirm with an ultrasound, I’d say you’re full term.” Robby watched the color drain from your face.
“Hold on!” Perlah shouted, grabbing an emesis bag and shoving it at your face just in time for you to vomit.
“No way. That’s not possible. She doesn’t even look pregnant!” Jack ran a hand through his curls.
“Everyone breathe. Let’s look at the ultrasound before we panic.” Robby rolled the ultrasound next to the bed.
“I would have known. Right?” You looked up at Jack.
“I mean…cryptic pregnancies happen. I don’t know.” He shook his head.
“Gel is gonna be cold.” Robby warned as he spread the gel on your belly. He pressed the wand into your belly, scanning and typing. His face remained neutral, not even an eyebrow twitch.
“What’s it look like?” You asked.
“Good news, the baby looks healthy. I don’t see any abnormalities. Potentially bad news, I think you’re in active labor.” Robby moved the screen to show you and Jack. “That is a head down, full-term fetus.”
“Holy shit.” You mumbled.
“I don’t…we…um…” Jack fell back into his seat.
“I can’t imagine the shock you two are going through right now. But I’m going to need to call OB down. They’ll want a pelvic exam. I can do it or I can get McKay to. Up to you.” Robby said.
“McKay.” You said, a far-off look in your eye.
“Try to remember to breathe.” Robby said as he got up and left.
“You two are going to be okay. Even the most prepared parents are surprised. Don’t worry.” Perlah gave your hand a squeeze before running out of the room.
“Holy shit.” You mumbled again.
“Are you okay?” Jack asked, finally back in his body.
“No. Not even a little. I just found out that I’m about to push a bowling ball out of my body and I didn’t even know it was there! Oh my god! Jack! I drank! I drank so much wine!” You gasped.
“I know, it’s okay. We didn’t know.” Jack tried to get you to calm down.
“Jack, we smoked so much weed! It was so much!” You started to cry.
“Baby! It’s alright! We’ll figure this out! Right now, my priority is keeping you safe. That’s what we’ll worry about first.” Jack squeezed your hand.
“How could I not know? It’s my body. I just…I don’t understand.” You tried to take a deep breath.
“Some women don’t experience any symptoms. It’s not unheard of.” Jack was just as confused as you, but he had decided that didn’t matter.
“I’m so fucking scared.” You looked up at him with tear-filled eyes.
“I know. Me too.” He kissed your hand. The knock at the door made you both wince with anticipation.
“Hey, you crazy kids. Robby filled me in.” McKay came in, snapping on gloves.
“No one gets to use me for a research paper.” You huffed.
“Wasn’t even gonna ask.” McKay chuckled. “I’ll do a quick pelvic exam, see how far along you are. When you’re ready, let me know.”
“J-Just a second! Shit!” You groaned.
“Um, remember to breathe.” Jack took your hand, letting you crush it.
“Fucking stupid thing to say!” You growled.
“Sorry.” His voice came out strained as he tried not to wince at the pain in his hand.
“Focus on breathing out. Focus on one breath at a time.” McKay put hand on your thigh.
“Shit. Okay. Okay. It’s over.” You breathed out.
“Ready?” McKay asked.
“Sure.” You sighed.
“Let’s get those knees up, great. Deep breath, lots of pressure.” She said as she started her exam.
“Pressure. They always say pressure.” You squeezed your eyes shut.
“O-kay! You are fully dilated!” She pulled her hand back and snapped off her gloves.
“What!?” You barked. “No way!”
“Yes way. I just felt the head.” She said, jumping up and running to the door.
“This can’t be happening!” You groaned.
“It’s going to be okay.” Jack brushed the sweaty hair from your face.
“I need a BOA kit and some hands!” McKay called out into the hall.
“I can’t do this, Jack! I’m not prepared for this!” You panted.
“Honey, you don’t have a choice.” Jack said.
“Not helpful!” You snapped.
“Honey, you’re going to do this because you have to. I know you and I know you can do this. There isn’t anything you can’t do when you put your mind to it.” Jack kissed your cheek.
“What a show, Rockstar! You are never living this one down.” Perlah came in laughing.
“OB is on their way, not sure they’ll make it.” Robby came in and grabbed a gown from Perlah.
“No! Not you! Absolutely not!” You barked.
“An attending has to be present for births. You know that.” Robby said.
“I have one! Jack!”
“He’s the father, he doesn’t count. I’m a professional. I’m not phased by this.” Robby sighed.
“Super. I am!” You groaned. “Fuck!”
“Baby, let him do it! It’s him or Shen.” Jack told you.
“Fucking fine!” You whined.
“Okay! Let’s get the bed ready. Is the warming station set up?” Robby snapped on his gloves.
“Got it!” Donnie wheeled in the warming station.
“No more boys! No boys!” You hollered.
“Thank you, Donnie. Go ahead and let everyone know this is a female only room.” Robby instructed.
“You got it.” Donnie scurried out of the room.
McKay and Perlah helped set up the bed. Putting your feet into the stirrups. They covered your body in blue drapes.
“Okay, when you feel the next contraction, put your chin to your chest push.” McKay instructed.
“You make it sound so easy.” You whined.
“You can do this.” Jack leaned in close, his hand firmly in yours.
As pain hit you groaned, tucking your chin to your chest and pushing. This was certainly not how you thought the shift would end.
“Good! Really good job! Lots of progress.” McKay cheered.
“Oh my god, I don’t want to do this!” You sobbed.
“Honey, look at me,” Jack cupped your cheek and turned your head so you were forced to make eye contact. “I know this is scary. I know that you’re in pain. I wish I could fix it, I can’t. But I know you are braver than you realize. Just a little more effort and then it’s over. Okay?”
“You’re getting snipped after this!” you cried.
“Anything for you.” Jack smiled. He shot a glare at Robby who failed to muffle his laughter.
“The heads out, just a few more pushes.” McKay told you.
“Oh god!” You cried.
“You’re doing great.” Jack said.
“Stop saying that! Say literally anything else!” You groaned.
“Sorry, I wasn’t really prepared for this either.” Jack sighed.
“Fuck you!”
“Yeah, that’s right, fuck me. Go with that!” Jack cheered.
“What!?” You looked at him confused.
“Curse! Swear! It’s good for you. It doesn’t bother me if you tell me to fuck off.” He smiled.
“Get fucked!” You screamed as you pushed.
“You’re doing great! Keep going!” Jack kissed your cheek.
“Fuck this!!” You screeched.
Out in the treatment area, everyone had turned to face the screaming. The nurses looked at each other with confused faces.
“Should we…tell them to stop?” Shen looked to Dana.
“You want to go in there and tell that woman to keep it down?” Dana cocked an eyebrow.
“Absolutely not. She scares me on a good day.” Shen scoffed.
“Anyway, that’s a valid response. I did that twice and I knew what was coming and I was traumatized. Can’t imagine what she’s feeling.” Dana shook her head.
There was so much noise in the room. From the monitors to the people talking. It was pissing you off.
“One more big push!” McKay told you.
“You said that two pushes ago!” You growled.
“Come on, deep breath. Let’s finish this.” Jack nodded.
You gave one last heaving push, screaming your baby into the world. Her cries made your breath stutter in your chest.
“It’s a baby girl!” McKay cheered.
“She’s okay?” You panted.
“As far as we can tell.” Robby smiled down at the bundle. McKay put the baby on your chest.
“Holy shit.” You couldn’t breathe, you were so stunned. Your arms immediately came up to hold her. “Jack!”
“I know.” He sniffled.
“Hi, little one. What a way to enter the world.” You cooed to the baby.
“That was a hell of a surprise.” Jack cupped the baby’s head.
“I can’t believe I just had a baby.” You laughed, tears streaming down your face.
“You’re amazing. That was…fucking incredible.” Jack beamed down at you and the baby.
“Okay, little one. Let’s get you checked out.” Perlah lifted the baby from your chest, taking her to the warmer.
“Everything looks good.” McKay helped the nurses clean you up and get you comfortable. “Placenta is going down to pathology, just to be safe.”
“Sounds good.” You yawned.
“Tired?” Jack chuckled.
“Beyond.” You nodded.
“We’re going to send her to the nursery for monitoring. You’ll be able to get some rest soon.” Robby said.
“Are you okay for a minute? I just realized I haven’t clocked out.” Jack stood up.
“Yeah, I think the excitement is over for now.” You nodded.
“I’ll be right back.” He kissed you and left the room.
The door closed behind him, and he bent over, hands on his knees, gulping air. His face was red and eyes wide. Dana and Shen watched, unsure what was happening.
“Holy fuck. I have a baby. I have a daughter.” Jack stuttered.
“Uh-oh.” Dana rushed over. “Jack, take a deep breath. Sit down.” She pulled him over to the closest chair.
“I-I don’t know what to do. I don’t have a crib. I don’t even have a car seat! How am I getting her home!?” Jack was panicking. This was a new sight for the staff, used to the steadfast Dr. Abbot.
“Relax. They’re going to be here for a few days. Plenty of time to get the essentials.” Shen put a hand on his shoulder.
“Donnie has agreed to give you guys some hand-me-downs to tide you over. We’re going to get you two sorted. Don’t you worry.” Dana nodded.
“Right. Okay.” Jack cleared his throat.
“You can do this.” Dana could see the panic lingering.
“Ya know the funny thing is, we just started talking about kids. Agreed to start trying soon.” Jack huffed.
“Universe called your bluff.” Shen chuckled.
“I married a superhero.” Jack took a deep breath, looking toward your room.
“Yeah, you did. Get back in there. She’s freaking out still, I’m sure. Go freak out together.” Dana patted his back.
Jack took a deep breath. Stood up and walked back into the room. The sight he was met with almost made him drop to his knees. You were holding your little girl, your gown pulled down so she was skin-to-skin and humming to her.
“Steady on, Jack.” Robby gave his shoulder a pat.
“Wh-when are they going upstairs?” Jack cleared his throat, trying to stay present.
“Soon. They’re getting a room ready. We’re getting her some formula ready.” Robby said.
“Right here.” Perlah came waltzing in with a bottle. “A bottle of PTMC’s finest for the newest member.”
“Thank you.” You chuckled, taking the bottle.
“Donnie is giving us some things to help us out.” Jack sat next to the bed.
“That’s nice of him.” You hummed. The baby latched onto the body like she was angry about it. “Got your dad’s appetite.”
“Poor thing.” Jack huffed. “I’ll go out and get a car seat tomorrow. And a crib.” Jack ran a hand through his curls.
“She’ll have to sleep with us until we get the office converted.” You said.
“Shit, yeah. Didn’t think about that.” He bit his lip. “Once you two are settled, I’ll head home and get some of our things.”
“Make sure you don’t forget my socks. My feet are going to be freezing up there.” You handed the empty bottle to Jack, who set it aside on the table and grabbed a towel from the cabinet and draped it on your shoulder so you could burp the baby.
“Look at you two. Already in sync.” Perlah chuckled.
“We’re always in sync.” You smile.
“Don’t forget to think of a name at some point.” Perlah said. “I’m going to give you three some space. Holler if you need me.” She said, ushering everyone out of the room.
“She deserves a raise.” You chuckled.
“She makes a good point. She needs a name.” Jack leaned against the railing, watching the baby squirm in your arms.
“Got any ideas?” You asked.
“Nope.” He sighed.
“What about…Felicity? She feels like good luck.” You kissed the top of your baby’s head.
“Felicity. Yeah, I like it. Felicity Abbot. Sounds like a badass hero.” Jack smiled, running a finger along the baby’s chubby cheek.
Eventually, you and the baby were transferred to the postpartum recovery ward. The second everyone left the room, you passed out. Jack decided to swing by the nursery before he went back to the house.
“Dr. Abbot, did you want to see your girl?” One of the nurses smiled up at him.
“Yeah, I just wanted a second with her.” Jack nodded. The nurse led him over to the bassinet where the baby lay.
“Technically, I’m not supposed to let you back here. Don’t take too long.” The nurse said s she walked off.
“Hi, Felicity. Hi, baby.” He picked her up, cuddling her close.
The baby squirmed for a minute before settling in his arms. She looked up at him, her little eyebrows furrowed as she tried to understand him.
“We might not have been prepared for you, but you are going to be so loved. We’re going to make sure you are so happy.” He kissed the soft curls on her head.

jack couldn’t figure out why you were avoiding him.
you, his best nurse. his favorite nurse, but he would never say that out loud. everyone knew regardless.
since the first day you joined the team and jack and dana were tasked with showing you the ropes, he knew he liked you. your work ethic, your ability to stay calm and collected during traumas, the way you so seamlessly cared for patients. you were also tough, much to his surprise at first. the first time he saw you deal with a combative patient like it was nothing, he bought you a drink after your shift and continues to tell the story of you wrestling down an angry 6’4 man so the doctor could properly sedate him. he’s still convinced you probably have some kind of secret super power.
of all of your qualities, the one thing jack noticed the most was how good you worked with kids. kids of any age. you were the ED’s baby whisperer, and you could soothe or entertain a toddler faster than any seasoned parent. you caught things that were wrong before anyone when it came to kids, noticing the most subtle changes or symptoms and you weren’t afraid to hound any doctor or attending until they listened to your concerns.
jack had asked you once why you stick to the ED instead of transferring to peds.
you had simply shrugged. “i love kids, but i hate seeing them hurt. at least in the ER, it’s not solely kid patients. i don’t think i could stomach that every day, especially the babies.”
honestly, jack was a little surprised to hear your answer, but he understood. he had always believed maybe one day you would leave him for peds, and he would miss you, but you would fit in well up there. probably more than you did in the ED, if that was possible.
jack watched from across the nurse’s station as you conversed with one of the student doctors. you were always so chipper, so friendly. a much needed sunshine in the dark of the ED. he didn’t think there was a single person who didn’t love your presence.
but today, you were quieter than yesterday. and you were quieter than the day before that.
he wracked his brain, trying to figure out what had happened. why you were avoiding him. what he did, who hurt your feelings, anything to explain your strange behavior. even dana had cornered him to ask what he did. to his knowledge, nothing, but he was itching to find out. itching to apologize, and make it right, and things would go back to normal. every time he had a lull in his day, he would try to find you, but you were just out of reach.
he had to corner you at the lockers to finally get you to speak to him.
“what is going on with you?” he asked a little more sternly than he meant while you were pulling your things out of your locker.
you narrowly missed smacking your head on the shelf as you jumped, whipping around to face him. he didn’t flinch at your reaction, just stood there with his arms crossed.
“jack!” you laughed nervously, your voice pitched up an octave. “hi. what?”
“what’s going on?” he repeated, “you’ve been avoiding me all day, did i do something?”
you gawk at him, mouth moving as you try to come up with an excuse. “well, i- you didn’t… i mean, i don’t- nothing happened, i just…”
he only leaned forward, his eyebrows raised as he waited for you to continue. you could only sigh, shaking your head as you looked away from him.
“do you want to walk me home?” you asked, almost shyly. jack had never seen you so timid before.
“sure, if it means you’ll explain what’s going on to me.”
within the next few minutes, you were walking down the sidewalk with jack, pointedly looking ahead and not at him. neither of you said anything, but he could practically hear the gears turning in your head.
you didn’t live far from PTMC, thankfully. if the awkward silence went on any longer, you would surely explode despite it technically being your fault. your house was small, or cozy, as your realtor had described it when you first looked at it years ago. two bedrooms, one bathroom, enough for you and your two cats, who started screaming for food the moment you and jack stepped inside.
“just a second- sorry.” you mutter, setting your things down and scooping them up. “there's beer in the fridge if you want some, it’s the same as last time.”
before he could respond, you scurried away to the second bedroom to get the cats fed and put up. you made a pit stop at your bedroom on the way back, digging out a small bottle of vodka you had been gifted by a family friend. you decided to take a quick swig of it, hoping to calm your nerves. you grimaced at the sting, screwing the cap back on and setting it on your nightstand.
taking a moment to compose yourself, you reluctantly came back out. jack was still in the kitchen, already a few sips into his beer.
“alright, spill.” he ordered, “is someone bothering you at work? i can talk to them, you know i’ll-”
“no!” you cut him off, shaking your head. “no, not about work, not- nothing like that. it’s… it’s entirely a personal thing. and maybe a little crazy." you laughed awkwardly, taking a seat on the stool at the kitchen island.
"i just... need you to hear me out, and... and let me explain everything before you look at me like i’m insane and immediately shut me down and never talk to me again, okay?" you requested nervously.
jack raised an eyebrow at you, leaning against the counter and crossing his arms. “okay?”
you took a deep breath, looking down at your hands. the alcohol was starting to hit you right about now, and you couldn’t tell if it was going to help or hurt you. you swallowed hard, fidgeting with your fingers as you tried to find a way to say what you wanted to.
"i just... i-i... i’m getting older, right?" you started, "and i've been... painfully single for the better part of a decade and a half and i can’t see that changing anytime soon, and i just..."
you sighed, your shoulders sagging. "i pictured my life being... so different than it is now. i mean, i love my career and i love what i do, but i... something is missing, you know? something big is missing and i've longed for it my entire life and clearly it's not going to happen organically, so i... i might as well take it into my own hands and just... do it."
jack nodded along slowly, his brain working overtime to try and figure out where the conversation was going before it got here. “and that thing you want is…?”
you still couldn’t look at him.
“i’ve wanted nothing more in life than to be a mom.” you told him, and jack’s heart nearly broke at the longing in your voice. “i’m 36, which isn’t old, but jesus, at this point i’m considered a geriatric pregnancy.”
jack’s eyebrows shot up. “are you…?”
you shook your head quickly. “no. no no no, not… not yet, i guess.”
he was quiet for a moment. “i’m struggling to follow along here.”
you sighed, burying your head in your hands for a moment. dragging your palms down your face, you finally lifted your head to look at him. “i pictured myself having kids by now, you know? and i-i dont have a boyfriend or a husband or anything but i just... i want it so badly."
you quickly wiped your eyes, trying to compose yourself. "and i trust you more than anyone else in my life. and i don’t think i can keep waiting for mister perfect or whatever to finally show up, and i’m not exactly gonna stay young and fertile forever." you cringed a little at your phrasing, shaking your head slightly.
"you can absolutely say no and i will not hold it against you or be upset or anything, i just... i don’t trust anyone else." you said softly. "and i’ve been thinking about this for years. i wanted to possibly throw it out there and... ask if you would consider being a sperm donor?"
jack simply stared at you, long enough that you weren’t sure if he heard you.
“jack?”
“i’m thinking.”
you nodded slowly, pursing your lips. you nervously tapped your fingertips on the counter as you waited.
“how long have you been thinking about this?” he asked finally.
“since i was 25.” you confessed, “well, conceiving through IVF since i was 25. i’ve daydreamed about being a mom since i was big enough to carry a baby doll with me everywhere i went.”
he nodded to show he understood.
“and… why me? why not robby or langdon or-”
you snorted, shaking your head. “jesus, no. robby and langdon are… well, langdon is married, and both of them are having issues of their own that i do not want to get tangled up in, with all due respect to them. it has to be you if it’s someone i’m close with and not just a donor i pick out of a binder, you know?”
“but why?” he asked again, pushing off of the counter to stand across you on the other side of the kitchen island. “why me specifically?”
you thought for a moment, despite knowing the answer immediately. you didn’t want to seem too rehearsed, like you’d thought about this every day since you and jack had gotten close.
“i trust you.” you told him, and you hated how timid you sounded. “a lot. more than anyone else around here. you have a lot of great qualities i would be honored to have in a kid. i know you wouldn’t judge me for taking this route. i mean, you’re an ED attending, you’ve probably seen every version of conception in your time-”
“i’m not that old, jesus.” he chuckled, shaking his head.
“i wasn’t calling you old,” you defended, laughing quietly. “i just mean… i think you’d understand me, you know? you wouldn’t think i’m crazy. you’re probably the most empathetic person at PTMC, and i really admire you for that.”
“i could never think you’re crazy.” he reassured you, “i’ve seen you work with kids, if anyone would be an amazing mother, it would be you.”
you felt your face heat up a little at his words. “well, i… thank you.” you murmured, looking back down at your hands. “i also just… i’d like to have easy access to contact the donor. just in case of emergencies.”
“what kind of emergencies?” he pressed, “medical stuff?”
you nodded.
“yeah. i mean- god forbid something happens and my baby needs a bone marrow donor, or a lung donor, or a kidney, or something. having easy access to reach out to the donor and ask them to come in to see if they're a match is important to me.”
“do you always think in worst case scenarios?” he teased, and you laughed again, nodding.
“well, i’m in the medical field and i’ve seen it all, so unfortunately, yes.” you murmured, scrubbing a hand over your face. “i think you’d also be selfless enough to do that. it’d be my job as a parent to take care of my kid, keep them safe and healthy. i couldn’t bear it if something bad happened and i wasn’t a match to donate what they needed. i’d like to be able to reach out and get the other biological parent in, but most donors probably wouldn’t care to do that.”
jack tilted his chin up in a slow nod. “that’s… wow. you’ve really thought about this, huh?”
you laughed tiredly. “like i said, since i was 25. that’s eleven years, give or take a few months.”
jack chuckled softly, shaking his head. “okay… hypothetically, let’s say i say yes. what happens next?”
you fidgeted with your fingers. “well, since i’m not going through a random donor, i’d suggest maybe drafting up a contract, for both of our safety.” you started, “lay out the expectations and boundaries, really talk through everything. if you’d be comfortable getting in contact with a lawyer to make it legally binding, i’d be more than okay with that. then after that is all settled, i’d set up a consultation at the IVF clinic and start the process.”
he nodded, crossing his arms. “alright, that seems logical. knowing you, i have to ask… do you have a mock contract drafted up?”
you felt your face heat up, immediately looking away. “maybe.”
jack laughed, shaking his head a little. “go get your laptop and show me.”
you nodded, making your way to your bedroom and coming back out with your laptop in tow. you set it up, typing in your passcode and navigating to your google docs to pull up the draft. you turned the laptop around and he pulled his reading glasses out of his shirt, slipping them on.
“alright, let's see here…” he murmured, skimming over it. “intended use… legal parental rights… future contact…”
his eyes moved back and forth as he read, lips parted in concentration. “you really thought of everything, huh?”
you nodded, feeling a little embarrassed at how much thought has gone into it. eleven years of daydreaming was more than enough for you to do research and cover all your bases.
“alright.” he hummed, taking his glasses off and hooking them in the collar of his shirt again.
you slid your laptop back over to you, furrowing your brows. “alright…?”
“i’ll do it,” he agreed, crossing his arms. “i’ll help you.”
your eyebrows shot up. “you what?”
“i’ll be your sperm donor.”
you gawked at him for a moment. “you… don’t want to think about this more? i mean, jack, this is a huge decision. i don’t want you to regret this.”
he chuckled a little, shrugging. “i’m sure i won’t, but i’ll think about it for a week, how about that?”
you hesitated, before nodding slowly. “one week, sure. you don’t need more time?”
“how did you put it? you’re not gonna stay young and fertile forever?” he teased, making you grimace.
“ew, please don’t ever say that to me again.”
he laughed, tossing his head back a little. “alright, alright, look. i’ll think about it until next saturday. we both have that day off, you can come over for dinner at 6. bring your laptop and we’ll go through this contract together and make any adjustments before talking to a lawyer. does that sound good?”
you nodded, still fighting your surprise at how easy he agreed. “yeah… no, yeah, that sounds good.”
he smiled, finishing off the last of his beer before tossing it in the trash. “don’t stress too much about it, okay? we’ll figure it all out on saturday.”
he slipped his jacket back on, patting his pockets to make sure he had everything.
“saturday,” you nodded once, “at 6, i’ll be there. at yours.”
he chuckled a little at you. “saturday at 6.” he confirmed, giving you a shit eating grin. “see you at work tomorrow.”
before you could respond, he was leaving, your front door closing with a quiet click.
a/n; apologies, but i don't do tag lists! thank you to everyone who keeps asking, it's an honor y'all would want to be tagged in this series, but honestly they are more work than i'm willing to do 🥲
one of my biggest gripes with the trans community and the discussion of transandrophobia is that its really fucking hard to explain to, without offending/triggering, someone who cant get pregnant, who has never had the ability to get pregnant, and would REALLY LIKE the ability to get pregnant, how pregnancy can be used as an act of violence, ESPECIALLY against trans men, and that its not the same as being forced to impregnate someone, both dysphoria wise or otherwise. like they have wildly different implications. a trans man who is forcibly impregnated is forced to stop testosterone for the duration of the pregnancy, and are often barred from legal abortion more frequently than cis women. his body is changed permanently from the pregnancy, the pregnancy can out him as trans if he is stealth, pregnant people are often times physically dependent on other people after a certain point of the pregnancy which leaves them vunerable to being trapped with an abuser, and a trans man who is dysphoric about pregnancy is going to have to live with that for the duration of the pregnancy, while watching the pregnancy that he did not want permanently change his body. on top of that, it is SO HARD to rebuild a life/career after pregnancy FOR ANYONE, AND ESPECIALLY trans men. theres a reason that forced marriage/pregnancy is such a common and effective detransition tactic against trans men, both in non-western countries but everywhere else too. theres a reason we worry about it so much. these implications simply do not exist for someone who is forced to impregnate someone. its obviously sexual assault and is horrible and it is permanently life ruining but not to the extent that actually being the pregnant party is, and pretending like theyre the same or even comparable is like. its not even transandrophobia its just ridiculous
Listen I made the mistake of saying I'd draw Jason pregnant for money and underestimated how much money people would give me for the bit so I do now have £190 but I also had to draw Jason pregnant and post it so really its a lose lose for everyone .... enjoy
satoru hums, his large hand rubbing your swollen belly, growing with the life the both of you created together.
“how could you be so sure?”, you murmur inquisitively, fingers gently tugging at strands of arctic white.
your husband chuckles softly at your question, pulling you onto his lap as if you were a delicate thing made of glass, hands resting on your thighs.
his cerulean blue eyes dart down towards your stomach, rubbing the bump affectionately.
“i just am.”
“uh huh,” you sound with an undertone of disbelief. “and i’m assuming your six eyes must’ve shown you, oh great and powerful sorcerer?”
satoru snorts at your sarcastic response, pinching the flesh of your inner thigh gently for your cheekiness. you pout, and his eyes glimmer with amusement.
“maybe it did. maybe it showed me a cute little girl with your eyes and my hair. who knows?”
“hm… well, is that what you want? a girl?”, you fiddle with the collar of his uniform he neglected changing out of, opting to fall straight into your arms the moment he walked through the door.
your husband shrugs, his hands resting on your hips now, giving them a light squeeze. his sights don’t stray for a single moment from your pregnant tummy, caught up in imagining a tiny version of you inside, his heart fluttering with love and excitement.

Jack Abbot —
Jack had sort of resigned himself to the idea that he wasn't gonna have a kid. He and his wife had been trying when he was younger, had more of a deep yearning for a family and been able to keep up with the kid. Then well he lost his wife and he sort of thought maybe it was the universe’s way of saying he’s not meant for a happy family, it’s okay he’s worked through this in therapy.
Then in walked you, this pretty young thing who was a new night shift nurse and when you weren’t glued to Lena learning the in’s and out’s of the PTMC you were glued to Jack. You seemed drawn to him and from then on it he was gone for you. However you being young and quite fertile and being an insatiable bunny rabbit that never wants Jack to pull out and well…you get pregnant. It was kinda early on in your relationship and so you were a little scared that Jack didn’t want kids, he was in his late 40’s and didn’t already have one so you assumed he didn't want any and would leave you.
You cry and vent all this out to Jack, hormones and everything already running rampant when you tell him about the pregnancy and he is so so soft. He calms you down and proceeds to tell you about his wife and well now you're just a waterfall of tears. But after all the anxiety and crying, Jack is the absolute most cautious and gentle baby daddy ever.
Being the diligent doctor he is he has reminders set in his phone for you to take your prenatals, even if they go off when he’s at work he shoots you a quick text:
— prenatal time honey, gotta keep my two girls healthy! there’s some dinner for you two in the fridge by the way <3
Now does Jack know yet if you’re having a girl? No but it’s how his heart feels is right to refer to you and the human being growing in your belly as.
He also insists on you having the baby in the hospital, he’s not exactly opposed to a home birth I mean he is a doctor after all. He knows what to do but he’d rather you be around more than one medical professional in case anything goes awry, that poor old man can’t possibly handle losing the second love of his life and your baby.
Sammy Bryant —
Oh sweet sammy boy who wants to be a daddy so bad. He is beyond ecstatic when he walks into your shared bedroom after a long shift and is met with the little presentation you set up of a cute baby onesie, your positive pregnancy test, and a little bear on the bed. He’s not surprised I mean he did have you bent in the pro bone position, filling you up with load after load almost every night. He was very eager to make you a mommy and he is quite proud of himself.
Sammy’s favorite part of his days now consist of going on late night gas station runs for your odd pregnancy cravings and laying in bed with you discussing baby names, who’s eyes the baby will have, who’s nose, who’s feet (sammy swears it’ll be his)
He is practically beaming when you come into the station, belly all big as you grow his son or daughter and bring him his lunch he left at home. He is quickly up off his feet to bring you a chair to sit so he can dote on you and show off his pregnant beautiful wife a little. (sue him okay he’s a happy man)
Somehow Sammy gets far more anal about your safety once you’re pregnant, no walking alone at night, you’re not allowed to pick up anything that Sammy deems too heavy, he’s just grateful there are no stairs in your house he’d probably have a heart attack at work worrying himself grey.
Pope Cody —
Pope who deserves more than anybody to be a dad and boy do you deliver. You are just about as stubborn as Pope himself and even though you and him are dating and very clearly serious, when baz tells him no one would ever have a kid with him? Oh you’re happy to prove the bastard wrong, you are on Pope just about 24/7 after hearing that and you get pregnant shortly after.
Pope, ever worried about you when you’re in pain, immediately notices when your morning sickness starts up and he’s witnessed Smurf pregnant enough that he runs out to buy 4 different pregnancy tests in the blink of an eye. He sits on the edge of the tub while you take each test, rubbing soothing circles on your knee with his thumb. His eyes instantly glaze over with tears when the two of you watch those 2 lines appear on all four of the tests. Pope kissing you as tears burst out of both of you.
He is beyond protective about pregnant you, making you sit down when you get up to grab something saying he’ll get it for you, reminding you about vitamins and prenatals, making sure to always keep you hydrated even if you already pee just about every 10 damn minutes.
Pope who can’t help the dopey smile on his face when near the end of your pregnancy he walks in the house to find Lena putting stickers on your round belly, writing out baby girl and decorating it with butterflies and hearts. He supposed it’s fate that he grew up in a house almost full of boys that his will be filled with all girls and he can’t complain he loves all 3 of his girls.
And Andrew Pope Cody who already couldn't get enough of you before you were carrying his kids becomes glued to you after. Hands groping at your body, telling you how gorgeous you are growing his baby, how good of a mama you’ll be and how proud of you he is.
— the og of this post had like 2k notes and im annoyed i fucked up when trying to edit smth…
You Have to show the same level of respect and compassion that you show to people who are dysphoric/grieve over their inability to get pregnant to people who are dysphoric/grieve over their unwanted ability to get pregnant, btw. You simply Have To. It’s non-negotiable, especially in a world that physically and often violently prevents the latter group from exercising their right to bodily autonomy and removing unwanted parts of themselves.
You Have to show the same level of passion and interest that you show to future technologies and treatments that will allow people who can’t get pregnant to finally do so to future technologies and treatments that will allow people who can’t impregnate others to finally do so, btw. You simply Have To. One is not more worthy/morally virtuous than the other, one is not an easier burden to bear for those dysphoric about their current anatomy. You Must show the same level of compassion for people who grieve that their only current way to have a biological child with their partner would be to carry it themselves that you do to for people who grieve that their only current way to have a biological child with their partner would be to get them pregnant.
You Must be just as interested in technologies that will finally allow anyone (infertile cis men, intersex people, trans men/mascs/trans people AFAB) to impregnate that you are towards the technologies that will finally allow anyone to get pregnant. It’s not up for debate. Dysphoria around one is not more morally virtuous and worthy of respect and compassion than the other. You MUST be pro-bodily autonomy and reproductive autonomy for all, or else you’re not at all. It’s just how it is.
