i struggled with this. did i love killdeer the best despite them being both common and annoying (two things which makes me like them more)? i really like oystercatchers, avocets, surfbirds, snowy and piping plovers…
but then i remembered the noble and glorious wilson’s snipe. that’s my favorite shorebird. the american woodcock’s lesser appreciated cousin. they’re super shy and i love their little bounce dance. the west coast woodcock!!
