Aaero

Aaero is an oddity among rhythm games in that you don’t actually need to hit a button with a certain timing - instead, most of your interactions will be grinding along rails of light in a way that mirrors the beats of the electronic drum and bass inspired soundtrack. It’s an interesting twist to the formula, and with varied difficulty options and a wide selection of songs to work your way through, it’s a fantastic choice to satisfy that musical itch.

As with many great rhythm games, the controls are simple to learn but difficult to master. While sliding along the aforementioned beams of light with the left stick, you’ll also need to use the right stick to aim at enemy vessels and the right trigger to fire at them. Each level is specifically crafted to fit the corresponding song, so everything feels really smooth and satisfying when you pull it off.

The base game features some awesome tracks from the likes of Katy B and Fluxx Pavilion, but you can also add DLC tracks with the 1000DaysWasted and Monstercat packs, providing some extra cool songs from some of the best known stars in the business. It’s a mark of pedigree that Aaero absolutely deserves, and just goes to show the quality of the level design and aesthetics. If you like your beats hard and your gameplay stylish and suave, you’ll love Aaero, so give it a try!
