Wilde and Son by AAR0NJAY on DeviantArt.
This piece was intended for Father's Day, but of course, I'm bad with time management 😛
It's kinda sad when you think about this drawing, if you know about the original concept backstory of John during Zootopia's planning days.
For those who don't know, John's a tailor who moved to Zootopia with his family and dreamed of opening a suit store called "Suit-topia". He tried to acquire a loan to open his shop, but was rejected by every bank, just for being a fox. He was so distraught by how the city saw him for only what he was, that he "disappeared". While walking home through a busy crowd, he lets go of his son's paw, leaving Nick lost in the city for days.
Probably the main reason I wanted to draw John was because in most of the Zootopia fanfiction I've read, John is interpreted as an awful father. I saw him differently. He was a dad who deeply loved his family, wanted to achieve his dreams and change the world's view on foxes. But his heart was crushed by the city, leaving him to give up.
For my headcanon, John was a great husband and a great father to Nick. He even showed Nick how to sew. He didn't disappear or abandoned his family, but died in an accident on the way home. Another thing I like to think is true is that he made Nick's iconic tie. Because... Since Nick's green shirt is supposed to resemble/match the wallpaper pattern of his childhood home apartment, why not wear something that reminds him of his father? (<--- Idea I got from a different fanfiction)
Sorry for ranting, but yeah, just felt like drawing Johnathan Wilde because he's a tailor, and I do sewing/tailoring too (from time-to-time).
Might make more drawings of John in the future doing stuff like buying fabric, using a sewing machine, and other things.
