Delicate
Daryl/Aaron
T, 1540 words
Summary: A discussion between Carol and Daryl about his and Aaron's blossoming relationship.
“I’m sorry, were you expecting someone else?” Carol asked with faux innocence.
Daryl frowned, going still where he knelt on the floor. He wasn’t expecting anyone. But he might have been hoping…
“Aaron left two days ago,” Daryl said. “Had to go to the Kingdom for somethin’ before headin’ home.”
Carol made a thoughtful sound. “And is home Alexandria or here?” she asked, carefully casual as she pretended to be deeply enthralled in staring at the jar of tea leaves.

Summary: Prequel to Delicate
“Sorry,” Aaron said, stepping into Daryl’s camp. His eyes glossed over the small space, landing on Daryl, fishing rod in hand. “You had plans?”
Daryl shrugged. “Was goin’ fishin’,” he said, voicing what they both clearly knew already.
“I should go,” Aaron said, sounding oddly regretful. He placed the bag of supplies down beside one of the tent pegs. “Leave you to it.”
Daryl grunted, scratching at his neck. “Got a spare if you wanna come with. ‘Less you got someplace to be.”
“Do I get to keep what I catch?” Aaron asked, already taking the rod Daryl was holding out in his direction.
“Catch somethin’ worth keepin’ first,” Daryl said, and they fell into step heading towards the river.

“He’s been gone a long time,” Aaron said, after a long moment had passed.
“He always comes back,” Michonne said, her voice so gentle it hurt.
Aaron closed his eyes, letting out a small sigh, his arms moving to cross over his chest. The strange weight of the prosthesis still made the movement awkward, despite the months he’d had to grow more accustomed to it.
“He comes back to Rick,” Aaron corrected. “That’s why he’s out there right now.”

Summary: The culmination of Daryl's journey across Europe ends in Aaron's arms
“You were gone a long time,” Aaron said. His hand had fallen from Daryl’s hair when their embrace ended, but it came to rest on Daryl’s shoulder instead, firm and grounding.
Daryl cleared his throat again, but his voice was still too thick with emotion when said, “I was lookin’ for somethin’.”
“You didn’t find it.” It was an observation, not a question. Aaron had always been a little too perceptive, especially where Daryl was concerned. Few people had ever looked at him and really seen him. Not a one of them had managed that feat with such astuteness so quickly as Aaron.
“Nah,” Daryl said, the sound rasping out him, rough and gritty as salt on the waves he’d nearly drowned in. He licked his lips, and he was almost convinced he could still taste the seawater there. “Went lookin’ for one thing, found somethin’ else instead.”

“You been out all night?” Carol asked, a small smirk playing at the corner of her lips. “At Aaron and Eric’s?”
“What’s it to ya?” Daryl asked, the words abrasive but lacking bite.
“Well,” said Carol, straightening her ridiculous blue cardigan she’d taken to wearing for her Suzie Homemaker routine. “The neighbourhood rumour mill is spinning its wheels about you three.”

Summary: A slice of life, set during the season 9 time skip. Daryl, then Aaron, visit Jesus at the Hilltop.
Daryl made a small non-committal sound. “Ran into Aaron,” he said.
It might have sounded conversational to anyone who didn’t know him, but Paul could hear the weight to his words. He cracked an eye open, watching Daryl through the slit lid. “He say anything?”
“Said a few things,” Daryl replied, moving slowly around the couch, not stopping until he was standing between Paul’s splayed legs. “Wanted me to pass on a message.”
Paul was expecting the hands on his face, tilting his head up. He was expecting the lips pressing against his own and the fingers smoothing through the hair over his jaw. And he grinned into it, his own hands clutching at Daryl’s arms, feeling the bare skin over rippling muscle as his hands slid under the torn sleeves of Daryl’s shirt, pulling him closer even as Paul leaned up into the kiss, mouth opening to deepen it. The slick slide of their tongues filled the air between them with wet sounds, punctuated by their own small breathy moans swallowed by each other’s mouths.

“You know, for all my reluctance to agree to a date, I ended up moving in with Eric before we’d even been dating six months.” Aaron huffed a soft sound of amusement. There was a small smile on his face that was painfully bittersweet. “I broke my own lease to do it. I never told him, but I think he knew. He had this look, you know? He could always read me better than I ever knew myself.”
