❝Damn you, Daryl.❞ Aaron murmured, his hand landing on Daryl's arm to stop him from going any further. It was his fault. He should've been quicker, more vigilant. But now wasn't the time for self-blame. Now was the time for action. ❝Here, lean on me.❞ Aaron urged, extending his metal arm, offering support there so he could use his other arm if needed. They couldn't afford to linger. Daryl had risked everything to shield him from harm, and now the tables had turned, leaving Aaron to make a critical decision.
Guiding Daryl, Aaron scanned their surroundings, searching for any sign of shelter. His heart pounded in his chest, the adrenaline fueling his senses. Every rustle, every distant groan from a walker had him on alert. Finally, they reached the safety of a building.
Aaron used his knife to make noise, alert them of the presence of any walkers. When there were none, Aaron helped to gently lower Daryl to the ground. His hand trembled as he assessed the extent of the injuries. Blood seeped through Daryl's torn shirt, staining the fabric a dark crimson. He tore a strip of cloth from his own shirt and began to staunch the flow of blood, his fingers working quickly despite the fear that threatened to overwhelm him. ❝Help me.❞ He said, frustrated that he couldn't tie off the make-shift bandage with one hand. It wasn't much, but it would have to do for now.
He sat back, relief washing over him as he gathered himself. ❝You good?❞ He asked, a gentleness came back to his tone.
