Disjointed thoughts ahead: Does anyone ever buy the products MG peddles? Most of her fans are just teenage girls who probably can’t afford Tiffany’s. The other large majority are Max fans who probably aren’t going to buy whatever she’s advertising because they’re (at best) neutral towards her. MG clearly wants to target the well-to-do woman with plenty of disposable income but the only stans she has are teens (that she allegedly communicates with). It just seems like bad marketing strategy to hire MG because I doubt she’s raising sales through the roof or even getting the brand much exposure since, unlike Alex who’s more mainstream, MG is on the periphery of F1
On the other hand, Alex knows her target audience: young, trendy Gen-Z girls who are chronically on TikTok. So she markets Meshki, Rhode, Alo. Things they’ll look at and buy because they want to be on brand and look like Alex (she’s a blank slate, she’s pretty, she’s dating Charles Leclerc—she’s the self-insert character teen girls desperately want to be. She’s real life Bella Swan and that’s why her popularity is so enormous—she’s anything you project her to be)
(vs. MG who is…the exact opposite)
I know this sounds a bit cruel but I can’t imagine there’s hoards of women in their late 20s/early 30s dying to mimic MG of all people when you have other references like Amal Clooney, Zendaya, and ironically Victoria Beckham who started as a WAG and evolved to become a fashion mainstay. These women are aspirational but MG isn’t
MG is just…I don’t know, poor marketing strategy? A bad business investment? What I would give to be able to see sales reports from brands who’ve hired her…
Dear Anon,
I’d say what you wrote isn’t an ask — it’s a full report.
And about your final question…Maybe the answer is both.
Or maybe, as always, something in between — a bridge toward something or someone else rather than a destination itself.
I’d love to see those reports too, honestly.
But for now, I’ll settle for yours —
and if that’s what “settling” looks like,
then I’m perfectly fine with it.
Wow

This is a saga, not a statement.
