you ever sit down to write and then re-read the chapter/page you left off on and get so hooked in your own story that you don't end up writing at all?
THIS ARC IS OFFICIALLY DONE
you guys im so happy about this you have no idea 😭😭😭😭 I worked tremendously hard this weekend to get finish it off and I'm literally over the moon about it. tomorrow in writing group i will be reviewing what i have for the FINAL arc of the story and once i finish editing that, it will be a matter of editing The End and this edit is done.
guys im seriously getting so close to being finished with this round and i cant wait for it. i dont want to be dramatic or anything but working on this round has been one of the most challenging, but rewarding creative ventures ive ever taken on. im definitely going to have to do a little celebrating once i get it done!
First Line/Out of Context Line Tag
Jumping on @tabswrites open tag here because I love to share a cool line every now and then!
From AASOAF 3:
Limbs and blood were all which stood between us and the captain’s stateroom, so we made merry with them, wasting the lives of those positioned between us and their most precious cargo.

Specified Lines Tag
I was tagged by @willtheweaver here, thanks so much!
A line introducing a character
The face of one with two different colored eyes met me—one was the silvery blue of a full moon and the other was hazel, vibrant, like an autumn sun.
A line about dreams
Evils of all kinds plagued my dreams in the moments I tried to find rest. They were flashes of color, weighed down by a brand of desperation sharp enough to scrape the soul from the shell of the body, but not sharp enough to fully pry it away.
A spooky line
Her hair, wild as it was, did not obscure [her face], but there was a strange shimmer where it should be. No matter how many times I blinked, the space between her chin and her forehead was garbled, as though I were looking into a mirage.
A line where a character questions themselves/ their beliefs
“I—” Wanted to say ‘yes.’ The source of my torment was gone. I should be grateful! I should be relieved! And yet, what was different? Was anything really changed?
A sarcastic line cheating a little on this one bc i dont really write a lot of sarcasm so have the equally rare jokey-banter
“Ye nay think she been good for me, x’fida?” I teased. “I think you ruin most good things, x’fidi.”
Tagging (gently): @void-botanist @tabswrites @oh-no-another-idea @monstrify @sugar-phoenix and anyone else who wants to play!
Your lines will be:

Anyway here, have some lines!
From AASOAF 3:
The vessel disappeared behind a swell, only to pop back up shortly thereafter. With its appearance came the faint sounds of women and babies crying. I hoped, dared, even, to pray, they were hanging onto something as firmly as the occupants of our boat were. And so it went on like that a little longer; us chasing them but never getting close enough to make contact, when finally, by some miracle, one of them spotted us. “HO THERE!” I boomed out over the waves, “WE BEEN FRIENDS, NO FOES!” There was a scramble on decks, but no response. “Maybe they don’t speak Common!” Mariel offered. So I tried calling out to them in any tongue I knew. Hamatian, Tlaxlian, Anatolian, Common again, even some broken Elvish I remembered Ophelia teaching me. Still nothing. “There be nothing for it! Must keep on, full and by!” “Carefully!” “Aye!” I strained against the wind and sea, pulling my weight into my feet and the lines into my chest. The schooner’s yard groaned and threatened itself out of my grasp, as though it were a living thing, speared and gasping for life. I ground my teeth together, brewing a growl in my throat. And then, as a counter to the animal in my hands, a wave threw her head back beneath our keel and the sky opened before our bows. “BRACE!” We took a nosedive over the wave, itself now a part of an angry churn, which tossed us, peak over peak, until our starboard dashed against the port of the refugee vessel. A torrent of terrified screams washed over our decks as I relinquished the lines with a cry of my own and, fighting against the list of our boat and the violence of the waves, lashed our decks to theirs with a pair of boarding hooks still dangling from my waist. A woman seated close by grasped one of the hooks and desperately tried to pry it free. “Avast!” I called out as the sea sprayed between us, “I nay been a threat!” “You may not be!” she cried from beneath her veil, a terrified look on her face, “But they are! Please, you must let us go!”
Tagging all the lovely folks mentioned above and anyone else who wants to have a go at this!
me: idk if i can write this chapter. how do i even start. WHERE--?!
also me, but more powerful: "The closest a man could come to feeling like a god was behind the wheel of a ship."
⛰️ We Made It 🌊
To give my word and hers worth, the once faint outline [of land] took on a stronger contrast against the white horizon and showed its spine through the haze. It curved toward us and at its end was a proud, jagged ridge, raised high, the way a frightened bull might throw its head to the sky. The earth at the peak’s throat was bleached white from the sun and was made more blinding still by curling white foam produced by waves several stories high, crashing over and over against it. It was windblown, like a handsome hatchet’s head, sharp and ready to cleave flesh, and all along its shape lighted the first glimpses of color I'd seen on the horizon which were not the few cool shades of the noble sea.
All along the peak and stretching into the mainland were long, brilliant green grasses waving with the wind as it danced over the curves of the land. Wildflowers in violet, cerulean, and buttercup hues clustered spaces here and there and a skinny path of brown traipsed from the mainland through to the point of the jutting peak. Along it descended a herd of wild horses, their coats golden in the morning light.
As I followed them with my eyes, the sun rose higher, and the haze lifted.
Mariel and I gasped.
The land rolled gently up, then down, then high, then low, though never as high as the peak, nor as low as the sea. It stretched across the horizon as far as the eye could see, its shape like gentle waters frozen in time. Tones of earth and lush green bowed and rose together all along it, occasionally taking the hand of the sea, and whitening the land with her foam. The sky lay comfortably over it all, opening its soft blue eye upon the world, as a woman might while peering over the shoulder of her man.
Flocks of birds came into view next, finding a changing shape in the air as schools of fish did beneath the sea. I followed them. Their feathers shimmered in the morning light—hues of green and purple and silver. This place, it waved her grasses and her little flowers and though she was not made of diamonds like the sea, she sparkled in a way as enchanting.
Land, I thought, had never looked so beautiful. Something about it broke my heart.
