After AAU Regionals, I gave Dakota a break from track. I believe balance is important, after all summer had started and I didn’t want to tire her out from being in track all year. So following the track meet I whisked her off to sleep away camp with one her her besties! I was sad to lose her for a week but also a little jealous ‘cause I’m such an outdoors chick and so is she, which I love! Upon picking her up she said she had the best time ever!! I’ll write about the actual camp another time… But for her, cabin camping surrounded by nature was awesome. She found swimming in a lake with fish, listening to the woodpeckers knock holes in the trees and even managing the critters that may make the faint of heart's skin crawl to be of the most ultimate adventure. At closing ceremonies, I learned that she was always eager to learn something new and did her best when participating. She even learned how to shoot a BB gun! Dakota was awarded for her enthusiasm and sportsmanship and her bestie received an award for happy and enthusiastic attitude. Taking this break proved to be healthy and renewed Dakota's energy towards her Jr. Olympic quest! It was a great way to reward her for her hard work...(it sold well) while further supporting her growth as an gutsy girl!
