AAW 2k15 post #2 - Ayankun
The first piece of writing I ever read written by ayankun was Stained Glass: a dark Vi/Jinx fic I came across on my thirsty search for Piltover’s Finest. The first thought that came to mind was, whoa I’m not reading fanfiction, I’m reading poety. Aya has this undeniable gift of stringing together words and phrases in such a beautiful way that I can only describe it as casting a spell. She can make you laugh and cry with mere sentences, and though Stained Glass isn’t the kind of work Aya usually writes, it’s really the first of its kind.
Another thing you should know about Aya is how often and successfully she rises to challenges -- most of the time you won’t even see her coming. A while back I mentioned how hard it was for me to see Katarina/Riven in a domestic setting and just mere hours later this existed. Her words work like magic, and Aya is a magician, making you believe things you weren’t quite convinced about before, and she does so using realistic, canonical elements that many tend to overlook.
If you’re not familiar with Aya’s works, you should do yourself a favour and read All That Glitters (Nami/Miss Fortune). It is my absolute personal favourite (sorry Creature Comforts) and everything I did not know I needed or loved.
Aya’s talent never fails to produce the very raw definition of beautiful.
AAW 2k15 post #1 - Cinis
I finally got around to making one of these and keep in mind I’m doing these in no particular order and am drawing names out of a hat in a sense, but first up is my good buddy and fellow thirst companion in our tiny katariven canoe: cinisofages (Cinis on ff.net and AO3).
Cinis might be expecting me to say that my favourite piece of writing by her is Burials, but as much as I enjoyed being buried alive in feels by that fic (lol geddit) I’d have to say my favourite is the ghost/living person au katariven. Cinis has this ability to string together words with unrivalled focus and establishes setting, characters, and emotions with as little deviation from the main point as possible, and it makes her short prompt fills no less enjoyable than her lengthy multi-chaptered pieces so if you too agonized over Burials, make sure you don’t miss out on everything in between like another personal favourite of mine: Star Wards AU. What I love most about her writing is how she never fails to draw some sort of reaction out of me whether it’s a chuckle from domestic au or real fucking tears from like... everything else, and she does so usually with that one single sentence that just hits like a truck. Her words can really take you for a ride and when it’s over all I guarantee you’ll be back in line with me wanting more.
