Aaylin had stormed out of the room, not looking back once more. A mixture of betrayal and anger boiling in her veins, yet a tinge of emotion lingers that she couldn't understand. She held in her tears, but kept walking tensely. Why would he keep this from her? He was supposed to be on her side!
Her tentacles twitched around her, practically begging to break everything around her, but she managed to keep her emotions in check….until she reached her room.
That’s when all betrayal and anger flooded her senses…
Her tentacles shot out and started to smash everything they could their slimy grip on.Her eyes fixed on something hung on the wall. A photo of her and Maxwell together, pausing briefly.
It was a photo, remembering the time she had taken it. It was about a month or two ago in the sweet spring, the sun was shining and they had a little walk-and-talk during their session. She was very bubbly during that day, and wanted to take a photo of their session outside together. He never really wanted to take the picture, for ‘professional reasons’, but she insisted. That’s how this photo came to be.
She deliberately walked over to the photo, her legs like lead, heavy with thought and regret.
She tentatively touched the photo, her fingertips brushing against the sleek frame. They slowly drift towards Maxwell’s face, tracing the figure behind the glass, a time before all this drama, where they were both happy.
“Noah…,” She murmured, a ghost of a smile starting to escape on her face. She flipped the picture frame over, looking at the engraved writing on the back. It read ‘a memory of us, together forever’ signed off by Maxwell. There was a heart next to it.
Aaylin’s heart fluttered at the message…she never knew he wrote this…
“Maybe....maybe we could talk through it… we could be friends again…,” she mumbled. Maxwell had turned everything around on them, this secret hurting them both terribly. But Aaylin would not let it destroy them… he had quit the job after all.
She drew in a deep breath, “We can work through it….together again.” She was willing to listen to him. She would be the therapist now… and they will find a solution to this.
She hung the photo back up, but not before kissing the glass lightly. Aaylin exited the room, finally finding comfort in the silence.
Aaylin goes into Maxwell’s room, trying to find why he's been acting weird lately…
She spots a drawer in the corner. Locked.
Looks around and finds a key in another corner.
She unlocked the drawer, finding file after file
“What is this…?”
Alphabetical order…. First one says Aaylin
Why would Maxwell have a file on her?
It had everything to know, every weakness, every strength, every power, every experimentation.
And she sees a task…
“Find and bring back experiment without delay, dead or Alive”
It finally clicked in her mind.
He was working for the Scientists that captured her, mutilated her own being in the first place.
The lights flickered to life.
“I'm back”
Maxwell sees the file Aaylin's holding.
“Where'd you get that?” His voice is stern, something that rarely happens.
He walks up to her, but she recoils.“DON'T TOUCH ME!”
She backed into a protective stance.
“You worked for THEM, Noah! With the people trying to take me away!”
“Aaylin-"
“No! Leave me alone”
“Aaylin-”
“I said-”“AAYLIN!”
He roared so loud, it echoed in the room. Aaylin flinched when she heard it.
He took a breath, trying to keep himself in check.
“Aaylin… I can explain”
She holds the file closer.
“There is nothing to explain. You hid this from me the entire time. Why the hell would you do that?”
Maxwell puts his head down in shame.
“I was horrified. Horrified to tell you the truth”
“Is that it? Horrified? Why? Because you thought I was going to lash out on you and kill you on the spot? Is that why?” Her tone was mocking, as if to egg him on.
Maxwell kept his gaze off her, confirming Aaylin’s words.
“Can I even trust you anymore? Why did you work with them?”
“...”
“Answer. Now.”
Maxwell sighed.
“Well, when I was 10, I really liked hunting, fishing, anything with nature that was survival. I enjoyed it very much, so I decided when I was about 15, why not help with locating people and such?”
Aaylin looks confused and annoyed.
“So how'd you get these files? Only the lab had them.”
Maxwell continues.
“I was doing so well, they put me somewhere else… the lab. I caught all these wild experiments that escaped. They look dangerous too, so I quickly find them. I thought it was for the better.”
Aaylin scoffs
“So you're judging on looks? Disgusting. But please, continue, Noah.”
Maxwell looks partially wounded, but continues.
“Then, when I was 16, they gave me your file. Told me all the things you committed when you were 8. Arson, Murdered hundreds of scientists you should know about.”
“So why are you a therapist? Aren't you supposed to be capturing me or something?”
Maxwell averts her piercing gaze.
“Well…. I didn't know it at the time, but I was feeling huge amounts of guilt and shame…so I quit"
Aaylin scowls.
“Of course. That's always the excuse….guilt”
Maxwell glares at her.
“Why are you acting like this? You're acting like an asshole!”
“Me? An asshole? Look at yourself! You're a therapist! Act like one, Noah!”
Maxwell’s face turns red with rage, his glasses fogging up.
“You would never - Do you have ANY idea how difficult it has been for me to keep myself in check, all while trying to manage your chaos too?! I’M the one who’s supposed to help people with THEIR problems, NOT cause them and make them spiral out of control! And if I CAN'T even do that, What's my purpose? Huh? WHAT'S MY PURPOSE?”
Maxwell yells internally, but ends up screaming in a fit of pure agony and rage towards Aaylin.
Aaylin’s anger only grew more, provoked by Maxwell. She's never heard him yell like that and it sure wasn’t helping his case.
“MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE TOOK YOU BACK! MAYBE THIS WAS ALL A MISTAKE!”
Aaylin is repulsed by his words and quickly leaves the room in a tantrum.
“Then maybe you shouldn’t have been a therapist at all. Go crawl back to your little hunting job. You’re not wanted here.” Her tone is laced with venom, stinging Maxwell in his emotions.
Maxwell realizes the severity and impact of his words as he tries to reach towards her.
“Aaylin! Wai-”
The door slams in his face, the quietness of the room carrying the stink of betrayal and guilt.
