Last day at work

What a bittersweet day. My last day working at United Way. I know I gave it my all this summer. I worked hard and was able to see the difference in my community. Everything from helping the upcoming campaign to recovering from the AB floods has helped me to become a better person. I'm so lucky for my opportunities. This summer has been amazing. :')

We need a bigger boat

I've been away from the computer for a while. On June 20th, southern Alberta was hit by a huge flood and hundreds of thousands of people had to evacuate their homes. Living beside the Elbow River, I can say it was a surreal, terrifying experience to hear the roar of a river becoming an ocean. 

I was very fortunate to have only been displaced for a week. The damage is overwhelming. Walking around my neighborhood is heartbreaking; lush parks and quaint homes are now graveyards full of broken trees and dust.

The one upside to the crisis has been the outpour of kindness and generosity. People really show you their true colours in times of need.

CBE and CCBE have exempted students from writing diploma exams this week due to flooding, which means I am OFFICIALLY DONE HIGH SCHOOL! No math diploma for me! :D

FOLLOWERS WHO LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES

Southern Alberta is being devastated by flooding, including my own hometown. I haven't seen ANYTHING on tumblr in terms of relief efforts, news, updates, etc. which I think is pretty unusual. Over 70,000 people have been evacuated (including myself and my family). Usually tumblr is all over that kind of stuff. I was wondering.. 

Is the flooding getting ANY coverage in the US?
