Look at me go, I got around revisiting some of the kids who aged up.
First comes Hector, who is a child now, and I still can't believe how much he took after Ashley.
Next up is Aimee, Irene's daughter, now a young adult. || Athletic | Can't Stand Art | Friendly | Heavy Sleeper | Perfectionist | LTW: Star News Anchor
Of course, if Aimee is a young adult now, it means her sister Abbey is one too. || Easily Impressed | Genius | Handy | Neat | Never Nude | LTW: World Renowned Surgeon
Hugo's daughters aged up too! First one is Rae. || Artistic | Athletic | Disciplined | Family Oriented | Neurotic | LTW: Become a Superstar Athlete
And finally, Nancy. || Athletic | Clumsy | Excitable | Kleptomaniac | Virtuoso | LTW: Become a Master Thief
There she is. I love her.
Sawyer wanted to hang out with his cousins, but they just stood in the hallway the entire time.

If you visit Abbey Fields in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, among the various things to do you might miss an important historical site. These are the ruins of the Augustinian Abbey of St Mary the Virgin. While St Nicholas Church and its graveyard are obvious, the ruins of this priory are very easy to miss. But if you look you will find information such as this was a Priory for Augustinian canons built in 1119 by Geoffrey de Clinton. It was the richest priory in Warwickshire and in 1447 Pope raised its status to an Abbey. Kings and Queens stayed there including Henry V and John of Gaunt. However the life of the Abbey came to a quick end as it was reduced to ruins during the reign of Henry VIII in 1538. At the time books were burnt and wooden choir stalls burnt to melt the lead from the roof. Since then it was largely left in neglect while St Nicholas Church took over the ecumenical work. Fun Fact: The red stones used to build the Abbey were often plundered and can be seen all over Kenilworth. Extra Fun Tip: Check out the High Street and Castle on the same trip.

18th September - Abbey fields, Kenilworth
So myself and my better half decided to have a pootle around Abbey fields today, in aid of the Kenilworth Arts festival. The festival featured local Warwickshire artists exhibiting their paintings and creations, as well as a selection of local food stalls; including one incredibly tasty looking Vegan Lebanese stand. After exploring the festival, we decided to take a walk into the the remains of St Mary’s Abbey, which was especially magical when melodies from the arts festivals could be heard weaving their way among the trees. The Abbey was originally built in 1124, and as you milled about, you could really feel how steeped in British history the grounds were.
Personally, my favorite and most majestic part of the Abbey was the grand towering trees which lined the winding paths, leading up to the priory. I am certainly no expert, but to my limited and untrained eye, they appeared to be redwoods? This of course lead me to repeatedly quote Dale Coopers speech when he enters the town of twin peaks:
‘Diane, i must find out what kind of trees these are. They are really something’
Furthermore, in true twin peaks fashion, some of the trees really did not appear what they seem, and appeared to be peeking out at us, as you can see in the photos above. Just imagine if those trees really did have eyes, the changes they would have seen in their lifetime....... now if only we could fashion them some mouths..
It was a warm morning and as we set off for home, after the school run, Jack and I decided we should go out somewhere and “do something” before he went to nursery in the afternoon.
I came up with a quick and fun idea – a scavenger hunt – and we headed over to Kenilworth to a lovely place called Abbey Fields.
our list for starters
Before leaving, I grabbed a plastic tub to gather our treasures in and some paper and a pen to make a quick list of things we needed to find and do whilst we were there.
It’s been a while since we have been over to Kenilworth but a friend had told me about its recent improvements.
We had a lovely morning, playing in the newly improved playground and then we went on our treasure hunt to find all our items and more.
We also had great fun blowing and catching bubbles and I introduced Jack to dandelion clocks and taught him to blow on them.
I had to repeat this exercise with Rachel after school as she was very jealous!
Here are all the treasures we gathered:
daisy, dandelion, feathers, stones and leaves.
the fruits of our search
And here are some of the other things we found to do:
sandcastles
blowing bubbles
bouncy trampoline
swing high to the sky
wobbly bridge
At the risk of repeating myself and sounding like a broken record, you cannot beat the great outdoors for fun with the kids and in the UK you have to make the most of a day without rain whenever you can!
