Marilyn Monroe wearing her tomato red gown in the 20th Century Fox/Howard Hawks musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in 1953, and jazz singer Abbey Lincoln wearing the same gown while performing the song Spread the Word in the 20th Century Fox/Frank Tashlin musical comedy The Girl Can't Help It (which starred blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield) in 1956. Though the gown was designed for MM by William Travilla and Charles Le Maire was given credit for designing Mansfield's costumes for The Girl Can't Help It, many of the gowns worn in the film by others, namely singers Abbey Lincoln and Julie London, were simply borrowed from the vast 20th Century Fox costume department without giving Travilla (or other studio designers) credit. Abbey looked fabulous in the gown, as seen below.
