This very old and battered piece still glows with it’s icy blue and cochineal derived fuchsia. It was woven during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecid (1839-1861) who was a noted francophile. The distinctive production from weavers and entrepreneurs of the era reflect this influence with their bright pastel colors and designs composed of sparse, natural-looking flowers and rococo swirls. Swipe for a painting by Abdulmecid II, his son & successor. #abdulmecid #abdulmejid #ottomanempire #ottoman #cochineal #ghiordes #columns #antiquerugs #turkishrugs #heirloomrugs #rugsarearttoo (at Heirloom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRrCKzSLeYb/?utm_medium=tumblr
