Interesting video about the “Interactive Dynamic Video” technology developed by MIT’s Abe Davis, Justin Chen, and Fredo Durand. One of the areas where the tech can find immediate practical applications is structural engineering—where it can help generate predictive models of how a structure like, say, a bridge will behave when subjected to mechanical stresses—but it also has potential as a tool for animation, special effects, and augmented reality, as demonstrated in the second video below:

The Visual Microphone: Passive Recovery of Sound from Video by: Abe Davis Michael Rubinstein Neal Wadhwa These clever cats have built an algorithm that is capable of recovering sound from video - They can film objects (like the chip packet demonstrated) that respond to vibration with a high speed camera and recover the sound that was happening around it. Oh, and they've worked out how to get a similar effect from shitty cameras with rolling shutters. Wow.
