Aberdeen Pheasants

Aberdeen, SD (1920-1923, 1946-1971, 1995-1997)

While this team’s name isn’t particularly notable, it is rather unique and nicely situated for its region. Aberdeen, South Dakota, as well as other areas in North and South Dakota, are heavily populated with Golden Pheasants, birds with beautiful plumage (at least the males) that are popular with hunters and taxidermists. Pheasant hunting was incredibly popular in the area, so the Northern League affiliate of the St. Louis Browns, and later, Baltimore Orioles, was named after the local fowl.
