What memories do you have from that evening? 

- In the crowd there were the Mayhem guys hanging out. After the gig (Abhorrence/Darkthrone/Cadaver), we all went to their house by train for an after party / to sleep. In the house there were some other "party-people" including Jon 'Metalion' from Slayer mag. The general pastime fun was to use a lighter to "grill" feet of the people who pass out. Heh. In the morning Øystein was making us coffee and listening to probably Steve Vai or something like that on his tape recorder.

What kind people Øystein and Pelle were?

- Pelle seemed pretty wild and unstable kind of person, but I won't make an in-depth psychoanalysis based on one [drunk] evening. Øystein seemed to be more "normal". He was a very kind type of guy.

At one point of the evening Pelle disappeared for two hours and came back wearing only boxers, bullet belt and a billhook in hand. Do you know anything what he did during the time of his absence?

- I have no clue, but according to rumours, running around naked in a forest was "part of their hobby". - Abhorrence member who wanted to be unnamed. Conversation with him was done by our friend @vetelin_mies 🦇

"I can't remember much about that night [Abhorrence gig and an after party at Mayhem house in Kråkstad]. One thing I remember is that after the gig, Anders from Cadaver told us that an afterparty would be held at some house in the woods and we would travel by train to get there! Me and Arkki from Impaled Nazarene thought "f*ck this, we are going home", until we realised we are in Norway! I don't recall much from that night but there was a Mayhem performance at one point (loud!)

Pelle was cool. Talking with Juice (our bass player), about Christianity, I think. He wasn't acting crazy or anything, except throwing Tomi on the floor for a good reason! I slept on the mattress on the floor and Tomi was sleeping in Pelle's bed. I woke up when Tomi crash landed beside me, with Pelle cursing and yelling at him! This was the time before any notorious fame for Mayhem, they were ordinary guys just like us, Anders or Darkthrone. But I am glad I got to witness it" - Kalle Mattsson (Abhorrence) 🦇

"Our bass player was a devout Christian back then and had a talk with Øystein and Pelle about his crucifix pendant. Both of them agreed his "reasoning for wearing it" was worthy and informed, as opposed to being "one of the mindless flock", that is, a casual believer. Our bass player later went on to study theology for a time, so there was actual deep thought behind the discussion, which I found interesting as well. I have to say that most of these things now seem like an absurd psychedelic dream." (...)

What's the strangest place and the most shocking place you have been?

"I take it this is in context of the band or related to that, so l'll just mention the party at the Mayhem house, back in 1990, where our hosts were Euronymous and Dead.

There were about 15 people, us included, one of who was Metalion of Slayer Mag. It was a great trip, slightly unnerving due to their passing out rituals (if you passed out, they'd f*ck with you, ie. when Metalion dropped, Euronymous lit up his socks and let it burn until he woke up. Severe burns to couple of his toes I think), and Dead's erratic behaviour, but we had great discussions with Euronymous and great time overall."- Jukka Kolehmainen (Abhorrence), interview to Cult of our darkest past 🦇
