All we could ever really do is speculate. What was in her head when she up and hit the interstate. Guess the pills didn't help, couldn't kill all the pain. And nothing good ever happens anyway in Abilene. Around the time that she met him, he was out of work. And her daddy said, you couldn't clean off the dirt even if you hose him down, put him in a collared shirt. Is it really worth all your dreams? Oh, no, there she goes. Your little honey bee. The whole town's about to know. She's never gonna be la la la, la la la. They always say there's ain't no place like your home. Guess that's the thing she was counting on, that's the thing. Can't believe she's really gone, really gone. She's really gone, y'all. I gotta say I thought about it but I probably won't ever leave Abilene. Ain't ever leaving Abilene.

Saddles and Spurs Bar and Grill, Abilene, KS, 4/8/26
building – 2309 N Buckeye Ave, Abilene, KS 67410 Saddles & Spurs opened on Dec. 29, 2025 in a past Dairy Queen building. It was medium-sized with counter, booth and table seating options. Windows along the front look out at the parking lot and nearby highways. The wood floors go well with the bare wood tables that all seemd to be about the same size. (There are high top tables in the bar…

This photo of folks at a polo match in Abilene back in 1939 is a wowser. Everything is perfect: beautiful horses, wonderful hats, the policeman in the background on his horse, the expression of the woman as she looks at them. Judging from that look, [OP] think she's the mom. 😉 Taken by Russell Lee.
Abilene, Abilene
Prettiest town I've ever seen
Women there don't treat you mean
In Abilene, my Abilene
I sit alone, most every night
Watch those trains pull out of sight
Don't I wish they were carryin' me
Back to Abilene, my Abilene
These lyrics come from the song Abilene sung by many artists. Bobby Bare, Buck Owens and George Hamilton IV have sung it. And probably many more. I listened to the song but not my cup of tea so I won't post the song here but Bob Dylan is having a concert in Abilene, Texas tonight. I am miles away from that city so I can't go. But maybe you can? I think it's already sold out then.
It's May Day today or the Labour Day but Dylan is rocking on. He is not putting his feet up. He keeps working the land. The stage is his office and the piano keys are his office keyboard. He hammers away and reminds us of where music originally comes from. He has something to say and he keeps on saying it. Does he ever get bored of his own lyrics? Dylan is leading a tough life out on the road. Don't tell me anything else. Does he do it out of love for music?
