This seemed like such a foreign concept to the gunner that even that
morning, he counted the months to make sure he did not get the date
wrong. Had it really been six months already? Time really went by
fast, he supposed.
Still, he could remember how allowing somebody into his life was the
one thing Haku told himself he would never do, and here Takahiro was -
breaking the rules from day one. Although that had been scary back
then, it now seemed like a blessing. Could he really be happier than this,
with Takahiro at his side? He doubted it.
That morning, after checking the date on his cellphone, he leaned down
to pepper his boyfriend’s face in sweet kisses, figuring this would be a
good way of waking him up, before pressing a gentle one to his lips.
His own curved into a soft smile as his lover finally glanced up at him.
Before even saying the words, he felt his heart flutter in his chest, a
feeling he still was only slowly getting used to.
”Happy six monthsary, Takahiro.” He whispered, pressing another
kiss to those lips. “I know I’m not the most… romantic type, really, and
fancy restaurants and that kind of thing isn’t my forte, and I didn’t buy
roses, but… I love you. I love you with all that I have and all that I am.
You know that, right..?”
Of course, he did not doubt Takahiro did, but he felt as if it was the best
way to explain things - to remind him of all of that. It felt good, in a way.
He knew he could be true to his boyfriend, always.
”We can stay here today. I’ll make dinner - whatever you want. That’s
one thing I’m good at.” He smiled, before taking one of Takahiro’s hand
in his own to pull it towards him and put a bracelet around the wrist.
It had, just like Haku’s necklace did, their anniversary date graved behind.
Then, he slowly intertwined their fingers and leaned down for yet
another kiss. “Happy six months anniversary again, Takahiro.”
The thought of someone actually being with him for longer than a
day or two already astounded Takahiro, and the evening before,
he had found himself actually panicking a little — he had no idea
how to properly handle something so big. Asking Hajime had
been out of the question, and Chikage was, as always, not a very
big help. He was different, after all. Very different. And then the
thought of Haku maybe not wanting to make this anything too
big occurred to him, and he had chickened out on actually asking
him whether they would do something, or go somewhere. In
the end, he maybe had made himself seem a little too apathetic.
So when those kisses rained down on his face, Takahiro already
had the feeling he knew why Haku was so affectionate. Did he
want to properly acknowledge this date, after all? And why was
that thought making him so nervous? Maybe it was simply the
fact that monthsaries in general weren’t something he was used
to, and something he never quite knew how to treat. Stirring and
releasing a soft, sleepy groan, Takahiro acted more on reflex
as he reached up to curl one arm around Haku’s neck. He didn’t
need to think about leaning up into the kiss, a sigh sounding
against the Strain’s lips as he did so.
The moment Haku broke the kiss, Takahiro allowed his eyelids
to rise, revealing sleep-glazed hazel irises that only slowly focused,
but widened all at once at those words. So he had been right.
Sitting up a little, he listened to Haku speak, and god, he some-
times forgot just how big of an effect the other had on him. His
heart went into overdrive in a matter of seconds, pulse so loud in
his ears that he nearly had to strain to listen properly. What did
he do to deserve someone like Haku? What did he do to deserve
his love like this? Thinking back, he hadn’t done anything that
would actually make him deserve it. It wasn’t the first time he
thought this way. But it didn’t make how happy he actually was
any less intense.
The delinquent opted to stay silent until he was sure the other
had said everything he had wanted to say, but he found himself
silenced even longer as that hand took hold of his own and the
bracelet slid around his wrist. Eyes widening more, he took in
the sight of the bracelet attentively, and he was surprised about
his heart beating even faster in his chest only because of it.
Without thinking about it, he finally leaned forward, maybe a little
too impulsively, and crashed their lips together again, teeth
briefly clanking against the other’s, but he didn’t care. As he
drew back, his cheeks were flushed delicately.
His thoughts were a little too jumbled for coherent words, he
noticed, but that did not stop him from speaking. “Te quiero más
que a nada, and I can’t believe it’s been six months…” Was it
strange to be this emotional about something so simple? His eyes
flickered to the bracelet again. “You didn’t have to—should I have—”
He leaned forward again to press another fervent kiss to Haku’s
lips. “Sorry, I don’t… know how to handle this. I kinda thought you
wouldn’t really wanna make a fuss outta this, but here we are, and
I’m so not prepared for anything, soy estúpido… perdóname. No
sé en qué estaba pensando…" It was only then that he noticed
he had slipped into his mother tongue, and immediately, a
sheepish grin graced his features. “…but I… I’m really happy. Six
months is a big thing, ain’t it? Thank you fer stickin’ with me, I…
I dunno how you cope with me, but thank you. I love you. Koishiteru.
Te quiero. I’ll shut up now.”
And again, he connected his lips with Haku’s, though gentler this
time.
