“Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (Lord Acton) From losing sight of what made him the proud ruler he once was, to disowning his youngest and dearest child, the disgraced King Lear has fallen far from grace. Forever will he be remembered as a tyrant, and not as the hero to his people in Richard Eyre’s “King Lear” (2018). 🤴🏼🙌🏻 Long has it been since yours truly watched an adaptation of William Shakespeare ingenious work, the last being Ralph Fiennes’ “Coriolanus” (2011), which has my utmost love and admiration, just as Sir Eyre’s brilliant #BBC Live-action adaptation of #KingLear does! 😁🙏🏻 Anthony Hopkins is mesmerizing and completely loses himself in the role of a mad king. Such skill, presence, and poignancy from a man whose truly a master of his craft. 😎 Emma Thompson, Emily Watson, Jim Broadbent, Jim Carter, Andrew Scott, and one of the loves of my life, Florence Pugh, are fantastic in their respective roles as Goneril, Regan, Earl of Gloucester, Earl of Kent, Edgar, and Cordelia. 😍❤️ My personal favorite of this incredible cast of thespians, however, is John Macmillan as Edmond/Edmund, son of Earl of Gloucester and the main antagonist of the tale told. His wit, malice, and cunning nature leads to internal conflicts within the king’s family. Such a conniving, yet gorgeous devil he is! 😈😏💘 Few languages are as soothing and beautiful of a tune to listen to as William Shakespeare’s work, and this wonderful adaptation right here further illustrates that! 😌 #KingLear #MadKing #FallFromGrace #ABlindMan #ConsumedByPower #FamilyTragedy #GreedIsNeverGood #NoItsNot https://www.instagram.com/mrgamer990/p/BpPx0xjhpaV/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=j0vxl4t7bizk
