"Water" in Blue Eye Samurai

It represents so many things, but mainly feelings.

Violent emotions of a cornered child.

Storms of puberty.

Someone's true self.

The parts we wish to deny.

The parts we are not ready to reveal.

Seeking the clarity of the mind

Seeking the freedom to just be ourselves

Seeking the right path

Is it just a coincidence that among all four main protagonists, Taigen is the ONLY person who doesn't have any scenes inside the water?

I think it proves his immaturity... and makes me eager to see what will happen in future seasons. I want to see the REAL Taigen, without his clothes (in situations other than sex), getting into the water and learning some truths about himself.

Fun fact: ablutions (getting into the water for spiritual reasons) used to be (and still are!) really important for some people, especially the martial artists. Blue Eye Samurai does an incredible job of showing this part of Japanese culture. I'm in constant awe for this show.

If I am continually washing myself, quite apart from the dangerous and insanitary nature of the practice, I shall cease to appreciate it. The thoughtful bather, who has a bath once a fortnight, is the man who knows that a bath ought to be entered warm, and raised to hot after entry, in order to experience the ineffable warmness, wetness, nakedness, milkiness of the steamy relaxation, percolating between his hams, with the winter night outside. It is the horny-handed and the leather-legged who properly enjoys his rare ablutions.
